Job cuts proposed for agency fighting family and sexual violence
The centre responsible for government’s collective response to family and sexual violence faces losing a third of its workforce in a restructure.
The board overseeing the Centre for Family Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention is proposing to reduce the number of roles by a third, from 78 to 52.
Chair Andrew Kibblewhite said the proposed change was not cost-driven but aimed at focussing on what will make the greatest difference for victims and survivors.

There is a sickness inside NZ society that we always avoid talking about, and that is the enormous level of domestic violence in NZ.
According to the Salvation Army State of the Nation report, police recorded 170,478 Family Harm Incidents (FHI) during the previous year.
At that level, 170 000, it’s almost a secret civil war.
Removing ANY staff engaged with family violence when you have levels like that seems cruel and utterly disconnected from reality.
We have an enormous problem with violence inside our families, it is a violence that is rarely acknowledged, removing ANY staff engaging with family harm is no solution.
This isn’t a Government, it’s an ideological boot forever stomping the face of the most vulnerable.
Like Dante ,this COC think tis is the domain of Brown people only so why give a fuck .I would think we would ALL be surprised that it is not the case .A decent jurno might know where this info is hidden away from the public .I always find it shitty that in cases like this we all get told that its mostly brown people .WE never hear how most of the great rugby players are brown or there are thousands of brown millionaires out there .those facts are just pushed under the rug .As Steve below points out this will be an ongoing situation until we ban poverty of any kind in NZ .SO I GUESS IT WILL ONLY GET A LOT WORSE .
I think part of the reason is what are the predominant ethnicities of the families impacted by family violence if it is predominantly Maori or Pacifica this government sadly sees no reason to fund this group.
Crikey, even I’m getting irritated at all of this Govt’s cuts. But my irritation could be alleviated if we had an opposition that pledged to counter a lot of this crap. But we don’t have an opposition do we, thus I am doubly irritated!
For real dude this group do fuck all. It’s a nonsense extra agency set up for fuck knows why for fuck knows what. If they started cutting jobs at SHINE or HELP I’d be furious but these guys are up to… nothing they just direct people to other groups…..
Removing poverty along with alcohol and other illicit drug abuse/use would go a long way to restoring harmony in society although the chances of that happening keep getting smaller. Selfishness and profit are the main motivations across society with most having some concern for their immediate family and friends and even the religion that was founded on self sacrificing love fails most of the time in living according to what they claim. It would be great if things got better but it won’t be with this government.
