WAATEA NEWS COLUMN – Elite Class behind Treaty amputation in legislation

The Government’s attempt to strip Treaty references from legislation is being framed as “common sense reform”. But newly unredacted Cabinet papers suggest officials repeatedly warned ministers the changes could cause widespread harm — raising deeper questions about whose interests are really being served by this Treaty rewrite legislation.
Unredacted Cabinet papers revealed by Māori TV last week showed the hidden scope of the Government’s Treaty rewrite to such an extreme that the question has to be asked, who is actually benefiting from these anti-Treaty agendas and why.
The unredacted Cabinet papers show repeated warnings from officials and experts that amputating Treaty protections from legislation could cause significant harm.
The Cabinet didn’t care.
I’ve been commenting on politics in this country for 31 years and I have rarely seen anything of this scope achieved ‘just because’.
Treaty amputation doesn’t happen by accident
The effort that has been sunk into removing the Treaty from legislation requires more than basic racist populism, it requires the wealth of the elites.
If we look at who is donating to National, NZ First and ACT, we see a cavalcade of donors with alarmingly extremist views on race in New Zealand.
Who benefits when Indigenous protections are weakened?
Exploitative capitalism has a cultural memory within the indigenous cultures they first rob, laws undermining Indigenous rights and Environmental rights are considered necessary by those exploitative capitalists because that is where the next exploitable resources are.
There is no way a legislative project this sweeping happens without elite interests backing it behind the scenes.
The Treaty has always been an obstacle to unfettered exploitation because it creates obligations beyond pure market power.
That’s why the corporate elite and their political allies resent it.
And that’s why this election is rapidly becoming a choice between public democracy and private influence masquerading as “reform”.

Those people around the world who wish to extract the last drop of wealth from Mother Earth know that one force stands in their way.
Not governments, this Coalition have shown how easy it is to buy politicians. And its not not even most of the people because we are trapped in Wage Slavery, desperately in debt and struggling to provide the basics for our families while being manipulated to desire more shiny baubles than we need.
The only organised force able to consistantly oppose the 0.1% are Indigenous People. IP arent from a place, from a country, from a land, they are the land. They live the way we were meant to live.
Here, IP draw strength from the promise of Te Tiriti, which makes it dangerous to the forces who would destroy everything to own everything
I guess this says it all. “If we look at who is donating to National, NZF and Act, we see a cavalcade of donors with alarmingly extremist views on race in NZ.” Again, if you can’t live in NZ alongside Maori then b&ggar off and go live in a racist country where you will fit in well! How dare you come here and shove your racism on us! We have co-existed for years showing a healthy respect for each other’s viewpoints as well as respect for ourselves. So go away NOW, you are not welcome here. Our smug, greedy PM claims to not be racist – which we all know is yet another lie and as for the frozen eyed, ugly minded, Goldsmith, slithery Seymour, ‘run with the hares and hunt with the hounds’ Winston, the cruel, ZB Hoskings and his morbid Trolls, there isn’t much to draw between them. May they all sleep easily as their day of reckoning approaches!!
clearly half the population think its the right thing to do because they will vote for them every election ever .Then when they come for them they will blame the poor for not voting left .
