The double standards from mainstream media when criticising Labour and National policy

There is such a double standard when it comes to the mainstream media covering Labour vs National when it comes to spending.
Take the brilliant public transport fare cap as an example.
The attack on Labour’s public transport $20fare cap has been a mix of snobbishness by the critics and a level of double standards over Labour costings that you never see used on the Right!
Frustrated by the intensity of the interrogation, Hipkins has pushed back on this double standard.
He argued that when the National Party proposed its multi-billion-dollar tax cuts, the media did not scrutinize their fiscal plan to the same degree, nor did National release their exact fiscal plan until just weeks before the election!
And this is true!
The mainstream media didn’t give the same level of scrutiny to National’s claim that people would have a $250 a fortnight tax cut!
The mainstream media didn’t give the same level of scrutiny to the $300m Tobacco subsidy!
The mainstream media didn’t give the same level of scrutiny to the $200m Oil and Gas subsidy!
Yet Labour promise to do something for the poorest commuters in our cities and all of a sudden it’s the end of Western Civilisation as we know it!
Look at the actual break down of costs, look at the $55billion budget hole National have with their Roads of National Significance vs what Labour’s policy suggests…

…This policy is ALL gravy!
It saves Auckland Commuters $120 per month. It saves Wellington Commuters $160 per month and it will save Christchurch Commuters $40 per month.
For those being hit by a cost of living crisis, those are amounts that are difference between paying a bill and not being able to!
For those who don’t use public transport they win because more people out of their cars and into public transport means less gridlock.
The argument over the full costings are semantics and as for the claim it doesn’t help rural NZ, the ENTIRE FUCKING COUNTRY bends over backwards for the bloody Farming Community.
They are only 12% of the country yet they have total control over the entire economy and political class.
We’ve done enough for the rural Volk, it’s time the people in the cities started seeing some love!
The fares cap alongside the free prescriptions and free maternity scans are all aimed at universalism that benefits everyone and reduces the prices for the many.
This is what a Left wing Government is supposed to do and the Right are panicking because the moment the Left announce populist policies the Right know they are in trouble!

I am one of Hipkins harshest critics but on this issue he is right on the money.
The corporate media attack Labour who are one of the gatekeepers of the neoliberal system they support.
There is this crap still out there because our adversarial system demands a socialist bogeyman to ensure the Nasty Natz are in a position of authority because back before the rich mans revolution pre 1984 thats they way the two party system worked.
The NZLP is no more socialist than Luxon’s front bench , ACT NZF !
The double standard is down to lazy , unprofessional dumb individuals who think they are serious journalists representing their magazine news services.
The death of our fourth estate is down to the general dumbing down of the content they produce quite deliberately and is a result of the hijack by corporate interests.
Top marks Bomber on pointing out the hideous hypocrisy here.
The rural communities are getting top priority with regard to the solar panels on school roofs programme….and yet …on average….judging by the length of the country protests we’ve all seen, and signs in paddocks witnessed, they are the biggest climate change deniers, anti windmills, anti solar and anti EV utes cohort around….talk about whingers!
I’m quite happy with the swings and roundabouts of government spend ….it can’t be perfect all the time.
But when i see the ‘what about me me me’ carry on, from the people who are already getting plenty…then i get mad.
Again, the same dishonourable, smug media doing their utmost to skew the upcoming election by “over-scrutinising” the Left, while the Right is allowed to run amok! Hoskings and his evil trolls are bad enough, with their continual undermining of the Left, but their day is fast approaching when the boomer brigade die off! No one I know is interested in their rubbish talk-back! And yes for the Right, it’s all about money, power, greed. Whatever your job in life, there need to be people to work at every level and who should be paid a livable wage. It’s now dog-eat-dog out there with the greedies ‘taking’ all they can get and ‘giving nothing’ in return. When they can’t find someone to do their essential jobs it will be too late!
Next thing you know Labour will announce a universal tax cut for all.
NO GST ON FOOD.
Why the f does any govt think taxing food is ok?
Its a very simple tax cut to implement. Dairies and supermarkets dont charge gst on anything edible.
