China missile whataboutasim misses the context
There is a lot of ‘whataboutasim’ over China launching a missile into the Pacific.
‘BUT WHAT ABOUT AMERICA’ they scream.
Easy tiger.
It’s context isn’t it?
America test fire in well established zones that are well warned in advance.
China test fired into the South Pacific AFTER Australia and Fiji signed a defence pact.
Article 6 says they will come to each others aid as South Pacific nations, a pact that NZ and other South Pacific nations should sign up to.
China fired the missile BECAUSE Australia and Fiji signed the deal, it was a direct response to that.
China has constantly said the internal decisions by any country is no one else’s business other than that country so Australia and Fiji making decisions about their well being should have nothing to do with China.
For China to throw a tantrum and launch a missile because Australia and Fiji have made a decision based on their own interests is an outrageous provocation and belies all those previous assurances by China that they won’t interfere in our domestic policies.
So.
Yes, fuck America and their Military Industrial Complex, but that doesn’t let China off the hook when it comes to test firing nuclear capable missiles into our front yard!

Where are the laws that prevent the USA testing in national territories?
And how would this one sided law be imposed?
In March this year the US fired an incontinental ‘Minuteman’ ballistic capable missile that impacted an island in the territory of the Marshall Island, not in internaitonal waters.
The problem with the question that Steve poses is this; the US is testing nuclear weapons and delivery systems not in international waters in the Pacific but in the national territory of the Marshall Islands, also in the Pacifc.
A one sided law targetting China for firing SLBMs into international waters, in the Pacific, leaves the US free to keep fiting ICBMs into the national land territory of the Marshall Islands, in the Pacific.

Mentioning the crimes committed by our side is not whataboutism. ‘Whataboutism is using the crimes of one side, to excuse commiting crimes, by your side. Keeping silent on the crimes of our side while screaming about the crimes committed by the other side is partisan jingoism.
German movie newsreels of the 1930s were full of factual reports of the excesses of the British Empire, to justify German imperialist expansion and aggression. That is whataboutism.
Imperialism is an economic system of armed robbery. Nothing exposes this reality more than what the US imperialists did and are still doing in the Marshall Islands.
What imperialists want, they take, if they can’t buy it or take it peacefully, they take it violently.
Colonialism is one kind of this violent aquisition and imperialist expansion. The other is the violence between the imperialists themselves.
The Marshall Islands are an example of the kind of violent aquisition and expansion, World Wars are examples of the second.
The USA, Britain and France had appropriated huge colonial empires in the Pacific and Africa, Germany, Itally and Japan had no empires, but wanted them, and so proceded to take them off the US, Britain and France, forcefully, violently.
WW1 and WW2 are examples of this process
Today, China is the rising imperialst power in the Pacific, what they can’t buy, or take peacefully, they are preparing to take forcefully. Even if it means confronting the existing imperialist powers.
Imposing laws on China to stop China firing SLBMs into the international waters, while leaving the US free to fire ICBMs into the Marshall islands is not a recipe for peace, it is a recipe for war.
I would like to ask Steve; how do you think that the US and its allies will impose your one sided law on China?
The only law that was obeyed by both sides in during WW1 and WW2 was the law declaring Switzerland, Ireland and Spain neutral countries.
Wars are not fought just with weapons, but with ideas and words.
If the first victim of war is truth, then the first martyr to lies would be a neutral country attacked by either side in an imperial conflict.
An imperialist country that attacked an avowedly and globally recognised neutral country would puncture the propaganda that this side are the good guys and the other side are the bad guys.
Instead of spending $billions on the military to support the US side in the comming war with China, spend a small fraction of that on a small army of diplomats to visit every capital in the world to get them to sign a declaration recognising Aotearoa, New Zealand as a neutral state.
Take these signed declarations to the UN for a vote of the UN General assembly and the Security Council, that Aotearoa’s neutral status be recognised in international law by all countries.
(Maybe the idea will catch on, and leaders of the big imperialist countries, Trump, Putin and X will be left to duke it out between themselves)
Yanks have no more right to infest the Marshall Islands than they do Hawaii. I support China firing missiles at all such illegal American bases.
