ACT announces Three Strikes policy for burglary
ACT want to impose a Three Strikes regime for burglary, requiring a minimum three-year prison sentence with no parole for anyone convicted of burglary three times.
Announcing the policy, ACT deputy leader Nicole McKee said someone’s home should be the one place they feel safe.
I think it’s important to track how NZ turns into the fascist state the Right are driving it towards.
By imprisoning burglars after 3 strikes, ACT are putting property rights above human rights and because prison damages the broken people we put into them and turns them into monsters, it will be society who pays a greater price once they are released.
This 3 strikes will see an 500 extra people in prison each year, costing us $93million extra a year for imprisoning them!
And just when you thought the inane vigilante laws National are ramming through weren’t bad enough, now ACT wants to paramilitarize private security forces in what vaguely looks like what one would call a proto-militia.
Think of ICE without the guns or budget, or legal oversight.
I can’t believe an anti police post marxist anarchist like me needs to spell this out to you all but NO ONE should be able to touch you other than a properly sworn in Police Officer.
Allowing ZB Vigilante Dads to grab hold of anyone they suspect of shop lifting is a recipe for disaster and the only way you can make that worse is by handing over to people (too thick to get into the cops in the first place), the legal power to physically detain someone.
I’m not sure any of us would be safer allowing ACT to start the formation of private militia by giving security guards the power to detain you, physically over power you, take down your details AND conduct searches of your person!
You can’t be this collectively stupid to give the most right wing party the DNA for a private militia.
Come on.
It’s a law to create Brown Shirts For Christ’s sake!
We don’t need to paramilitarize Security Guards with proto-police powers.
No one needs that. Put the militia down, move slowly out of the room.

Human Rights in NZ have almost gone due to the shenanigans of the smaller parties. Where is their dignity, pride and for that matter, is there a brain engaged?
