Te Puaruruhau – The name Family Court parents dreaded

I first heard of Te Puaruruhau in 2015 while I was near the end of a brutal 5 year Family Court battle to gain custody of my daughter.
Part of that process was group therapy sessions with other parents involved in Family Court custody battles and already back then, the name of Te Puaruruhau was a cause of fear amongst many.
It was already common knowledge only after 5 years of operating that if a parent made a complaint to Te Puaruruhau, not only would you lose your Family Court bid, but the Police would come knocking shortly afterwards. Complaining to Te Puaruruhau had already become a favourite course of action by parents fighting custody battles.
Make a false complaint about abuse to Te Puaruruhau and certainty in winning your Family Court battle was a given.
It shocks me 11 years later that every whispered fear about Te Puaruruhau has come to pass.
The expose by Newsroom 11 years later over what Te Puaruruhau has mutated into should make every citizen deeply nervous about State power over reach when it comes to seizing children…
What is going on at Starship’s child protection unit?
For decades, a small group of specialists at Starship Hospital’s child protection unit have played a central role in some of NZ’s most serious physical child abuse cases. Their opinions trigger police investigations, child removals, criminal prosecutions and prison sentences. In many cases, their medical findings are treated as the starting point for everything that follows. But what happens if some findings are wrong?
…this is investigative journalism at its very best and I believe that Bonnie Sumner and Melanie Reid deserve to win an award here because it is VERY difficult to have read all their pieces on this issue and not come to a terrifying realisation that Te Puaruruhau has become a weaponised process to uplift children based on nothing more than an occult level self belief they are defending all the broken abused children regardless of actual evidence proving abuse.
This has the same explosive possibilities as the infamous ‘Unfortunate Experiment’ from Metro.
That Te Puaruruhau has become so convinced of their own saintly worthiness, minus actual evidence, is akin to what happened in Christchurch with the Satanic Panic which saw Peter Ellis wrongfully convicted of sexually abusing children.
This is the story of the year, what has been painstakingly uncovered demands attention and how the State has wrongfully damaged so many lives actually demands an inquiry.
Oh the bitter harvest we have reaped as a society.

As soon as I started reading this article I was reminded of the Christchurch civic creche case that you mentioned at the end. It seems that the therapy could be worse than the existing situation yet they are never held to account. Hopefully that will change now and that protecting vulnerable people is the focus instead of allowing people to run a vendetta against those they don’t like.
All done in the name of care and empathy.
Think of the Children!
Watching the family court in action ,the children are the last people to be considered .The whole system is very poor .If you have endless money you can easily destroy another persons life completly and the kids are used as pawns to achieve that result .
I now see kids who are destroyed by the process and need years of help to get back on track .
The biggest fallacy is that fathers are all arseholes and shit parents .I will tell you right now that two of my grandsons will tell you how shit their life is now their mum has sole custody and they have to live with a meth fueled hooker and watch on while she plies her trade .
