NZ is so laid back we are going into a fuel crisis economic meltdown almost horizontal

New Zealand’s fuel crisis is no longer some distant global tremor — it is here, it is economic, and the Government’s response feels like a scented candle at a house fire.
We are such a laid back culture, we are almost horizontal.
The assurances from our Government are nothing more than empty prayers and thoughts.
We are being tricked with 5-day-old data being used to keep the sleepy hobbits from bolting once they understand the real fuel scarcity and looming price destruction.

‘The damage is done’: global oil crisis has changed fossil fuel industry for ever, IEA chief says
The oil crisis triggered by the Iran war has changed the fossil fuel industry for ever, turning countries away from fossil fuels to secure energy supplies, the world’s leading energy economist said.

Government’s plans for LNG terminal didn’t model international price spike
Modelling done for the government on its plans for an LNG terminal did not consider the effect of an international price spike, documents show.
A climate advocate said the decision not to model price volatility was “remarkable” and raised further questions about whether the planned facility was a good idea.
However, officials said although the current conflict in the Middle East had created volatility in LNG prices, longer-term price projections were still in line with the information the government based its decision on.
The government announced in February it would proceed with plans for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import facility in Taranaki, with the billion-dollar plus cost paid for through an electricity levy.
The proposal, widely criticised at the time, has attracted renewed opposition after Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz prompted the price of fossil fuels – including LNG – to spike.

The Finance Minister insists the Middle East oil crisis will only “delay, not derail” New Zealand’s economic recovery, as officials take the unusual step of reopening Budget forecasts amid wild swings in global energy markets.

Financial stress is fraying New Zealand’s social fabric as trust and unity fall, new report claims
A new report is warning New Zealanders the “country’s social fabric is fraying on almost every measure”, amid growing isolation, financial stress and institutional distrust.
Findings from the Helen Clark Foundation’s second annual Social Cohesion in New Zealand report were “both frightening and hopeful”, economist and report co-author Shamubeel Eaqub said.
“New Zealand still has strong foundations, but there are growing cracks in how people experience fairness, opportunity and connection,” Eaqub said.
“Financial stress is the dominant driver.”

Again Luxon knows best- he can never be wrong His “already failed” CoC is so out of touch with reality it defies belief. If you truly believe he has our fuel crisis, let alone our economy, under control, you have lost your marbles. When will you wake up and see what is so clear to intelligent Kiwis? He was lucky with his FTA with bipartisan help, but he has failed miserably to do anything else of significance. He won’t and can’t change – what you see is what you get and deserve! So you looney RW voters continue to support this ‘fraud’ and more of this mayhem, if you dare!
100% agreed, Patrize.
All the evidence we needed how hopeless this government is with the economy was delivered along with their very first budget.
BORROWING FFS for tax cuts should’ve sent shockwaves across the financial sector à la Liz Truss the lettuce.
But no. Instead it was glossed over.
This government has borrowed more than any Labour administration. And they have borrowed to fund non-productive sectors. Meanwhile, they cut social services while claiming to be sensible and pragmatic. That is utter bullshit.
I just wish journalists would ask follow up questions whenever the CoC boast about their supposed “incredible” management of our economy.
Willis et al have tanked our little economy and us suckers at the bottom of the austerity heap will pay the price while the rich enjoy their growing untaxed capital gains.
Austerity has never worked out well, anywhere ever. Aotearoa won’t be any different.
No wonder public cohesion is suffering.
