What Jack Tame destroying Henry means and which Paul will turn up for ACT?

New ACT candidate Paul Henry struggled to answer questions about how he would tackle the biggest challenge facing New Zealand’s media industry in a combative TV interview.
Appearing on TVNZ’s Q+A on Sunday, Henry was repeatedly pressed by host Jack Tame to explain what policies he would support to address the dominance of overseas tech giants such as Google and Facebook in New Zealand’s advertising market.
Tame pointed out Google generated about $1.26 billion in New Zealand revenue last year while paying just $4.6 million in tax after much of its revenue was shifted offshore.

Jack Tame is a very straight shooter.
He asked very legitimate questions of Paul Henry on Q+A and he beat the living Christ out of Paul.
It raises a couple off important questions about Henry as a candidate.
1 – He has a glass jaw.
2 – The previous fawning interviews by the ZB Troll Farm and right wing hate merchants were all terribly below par and is a reminder of how important real journalism and public broadcasting is.
What is interesting to me is what Paul Henry turns up for ACT.
There is no doubt Henry has charm, but that’s mostly driven by the fact that most Right Wing Politicians have all the charm of a road accident, so comparatively he appears suave.
ACT getting Henry is a political master stroke, his racist Dad joke routine perfectly white washes their Brown Shirt routine.
Paul Henry is far more funny than the grim faced Genocide cheerleader that is Simon Court.
But what Paul Henry is turning?
There are 2.
The first is just another rich white prick pimping for the plutocracy and oligarchy.
We have plenty of those and adding one more won’t make much difference.
Or are we going to get Paul Henry the disrupter? The Tucker Carlson/Piers Morgan. who can slaughter right wing scared cows with the ease he attacks left wing sacred cows.
His early attack on legalising machine guns suggests he could be the latter.
Nicole McKee wakes up each morning trying to find new ways to get machine guns into the hands of every infant, and for Pauyl Henry to shit on that suggests he could be a disruptor in the Carlson/Morgan model.
There is a ‘Bob Jones’ electorate in NZ, and that can hand ACT 15%, and if Paul Henry plays to that
The good news for the Left is that Paul only appeals to National and NZF voters, so they can all fight over an ever decreasing circle.
Independent Media is more important than ever, especially in the lead up to the Election. TDB is the largest Left Wing Blog in NZ and we have been operating for 13 years now. I thought, at one brief stage in the interview, that Henry lookked decidedly angry at the persistent questioning of Jack.
Which makes him vulnerable – if he can’t keep it together when in the spotlight.
What that interview glaringly highlighted was that there is an ocean of difference between being an MP than being a Breakfast show ‘shock jock’ with a license to just talk shallow garbage….ask biased questions….then quickly move on… always getting to have the final biased say after the interviewee has been switched off.
Henry has been ruthlessly exposed for making the cardinal of sins…better to be thought of as being a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt…..his lack of N.Z. political and economic history was woeful….and the naive notion that somehow ACT was going to ‘vibe’ N.Z to economic and social nirvana are the thoughts of a silly fool…what planet is he on….one too many Pina coladas in the Greek Islands i suspect.
I think he thought that he could just rockup all casual like…. wearing his partner’s nightie under his suit coat….giggle like a 14 year old schoolboy laughing at his own jokes…throw out a few vacous answers…and it would job done.
Of course if the likes of Hosking, Ryan Bridges, Garner,Peter Williams et al decided to get into politics the result would be the same as the trainwreck we all just witnessed on Q&A….These people are all legends in their own minds back by little to no substance…not serious people.
In fact, so bad was Henry, that ‘Getting Henryed’ could enter the lexicon everytime someone has such a woeful trainwreck of an interview!

One way to catch a rat is to put out a trap with bait and not set it for a couple of nights.
By the third night (or in this case multiple friendly interviews) the rat has grown confident, unguarded and sure of themselves.
That’s when the trap gets set, and the real interview happens. Snap!!
That image of PH with his arm over Seymour’s shoulder is worth a thousand words. Someone’s on the menu.
Henry and the Act freak show love to scream that every one is equal under New Zealand law. Except multi national tax dodgers apparently.
Kiwis are known for the best rugby players in the world, top athletes, creative talent with Lord of the Rings, climbing Mt Everest, having a world renown female leader which dealt with crisis after crisis. Don’t get me wrong, Paul’s entertaining but do we really want a role model with the mentality of a 13 year old representing and leading NZ? We’ve already seen what the damage of having a self serving clown show in the halls of power has done to another said country.
