  1. Confirmed by numerous reports and media outlets, Putin is closing the borders.

    From Politico:
Russia shuts railway border crossings with Finland, Estonia and Latvia
Moscow gave no explanation for the move nor any indication of when the restrictions might end.

Russia on Wednesday shut down traffic through some of its last remaining railway border crossings with the European Union.

The move, announced in a government order on Tuesday evening, suspends all movement of persons, vehicles, goods, and cargo by rail with Finland, Estonia and Latvia from July 1. The Foreign Ministry has formally notified the Baltic nations of the decision, but offered no explanation for the “temporary” closures, nor any indication of when they might be lifted.
The affected checkpoints and crossings with Finland include St. Petersburg’s Finland Station, Vyborg and Svetogorsk in the Leningrad region, and Värtsilä and Lütta in Karelia. Pechory on the Estonian frontier and Pytalovo near Latvia are also closed……

    From Meduza:
Russia closes seven railway border crossings with Finland, Latvia, and Estonia
    July 1, 2026

…..A government decree orders a halt to “the movement of persons, vehicles, goods, and freight” at the following crossings as of Wednesday:
Vyborg and Svetogorsk in the Leningrad region…
    Vyartsilya and Lyuttya in Karelia….
    St. Petersburg-Finlyandsky….
    Pechory-Pskovskiye in the Pskov region….
    Pytalovo in the Pskov region….
The Foreign Ministry is required to notify the governments of Finland, Estonia, and Latvia of the decision.
No explanation has been given for the closures, and no end date has been announced…..

Would our resident pro-Kremlin trolls like to proffer an explanation, or possibly even a denial, maybe?

    Conjecture is rife.

    From Euro News:
In an unexpected move, Russia announced several railway border crossings with Finland, Estonia and Latvia to be “temporarily” shut down. Could this indicate an upcoming mobilisation in Russia as Moscow lacks troops for its ongoing all-out war against Ukraine?

…..According to a recent Danish investigation, Russia is significantly building up its military presence on the NATO border in preparation for a potential future war with the alliance….
Another reason for a sudden decision to close the railway border crossings is the rumoured upcoming mobilisation in Russia.
Russian authorities are allegedly discussing a new wave of mobilisation as soon as this autumn. According to some reports, it can be announced in October after elections to the State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament. The vote is scheduled for 18-20 September…..

After failing against Ukraine, the Russian Federation are not likely to do very well against the NATO alliance.

My guess is that Putin is closing the borders in preparation for the second option, a new mass mobilisation.

I don’t think this will go very well either. The Russian men that haven’t signed contracts to fight in Ukraine after four years of war, are not likely to look more kindly on enlisting now.

There is a reason that most modern armies are volunteer only.

In the age of social media just one Kiel sized protest or hunger strike by Russian soldiers, will ripple right across the Russian empire.

The Kiel Mutiny: An Attempt to End WWI?
    https://www.thecollector.com/kiel-mutiny-wwi/

….By 1918, after more than three years of hellish fighting, troops on both sides of the First World War were tired and demoralized. What everyone thought would be a short war turned out to be a static stalemate with no end in sight. Millions had died, an unprecedented casualty rate for the time, and soldiers began to question the worth of their own sacrifices.,,,
…..Germany’s economic situation was suffering from naval blockades, and as a result, food and fertilizer were in short supply. This meant that many soldiers and sailors had to make do with reduced rations…..
…… On August 2, 1917, 350 sailors staged a demonstration as part of a wider hunger strike that involved 800 crew members from the dreadnought Prinzregent Luitpold refusing to eat until the quality and quantity of food rations were improved. A commission was set up to address the concerns of the sailors, but two of the ringleaders were sentenced to death, while around 75 others were imprisoned.
Before he was executed by firing squad in Cologne, Albin Kobis declared, “I die with a curse on the German-militarist state!” Willy Weber, the other ringleader sentenced to death, escaped execution when his sentence was reduced to 15 years in prison. On recounting the events, he explained, “Nobody wanted a revolution, we just wanted to be treated more like human beings.”…..
…..What had started as issues relevant to a band of unhappy sailors had spread across the Second Reich and turned into a major political movement that threatened to upturn the entire German societal order…..
…..On November 9, Phillip Scheidemann declared Germany a republic from the balcony of the Reichstag. Wilhelm II fled the country and abdicated his throne. On November 11, an armistice was declared, and the First World War came to an end.

In the age of social media just one Kiel type protest or hunger strike by Russian soldiers, especially if it is met with represssion, will ripple right across the Russian empire.

I don’t know where Putin would flee to, his options are limited, can’t see China being too keen, that only leaves North Korea.
The former deposed dictator of Syria, Basha al-Assad will be lucky if he has a seat eserved for him on Putin’s departing plane.

    1. NATO members, Finland, Latvia, and Estonia (and Lithuania) are either in the process of turning into nuclear armed States, allowing their airspace to be used for Ukrainian drones and or setting up drone building factories, in support of Ukraine, which will be located near the Russian border. These are but some reasons why Russia may be doing whatever is written here.

As for Syria. Is Syria better off now that it has a Western/Israeli puppet as its new leader, a former ISIS/ Al Qaeda leader at that! Who can be happy about this outcome…

  2. Martyn, I respect your work greatly and concur with many of your views.

Sadly you are misinformed, badly, on this war. Please look at independent reporting and commentary that is not under the influence of western intelligence and corporate interests.

AO is bang-on with his comments.

  3. No Western country would stomach (sizeable) losses, hence why we orchestrated Ukraine into doing our bidding. Neighboring or nearby, non-Western states are also being geared up to do our dirty work against Russia.

Fantastic isn’t it, we provide the funding, the arms, the intel, the political and media cover, and then we let our proxies loose on whomever we need to control. We never stopped colonizing the world, we simply modernized the process. Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iran to come, Venezuela, China on the horizon…our proxies, Ukraine, ISIS/Al-Qaeda, Israel, and a host of countries, spearheaded by the Philippines, lining up to take on China…..they all do our bidding while we sit back, watch and orchestrate from a far.

We are indeed ruthless, little old Putin has nothing on us. And we are the Left, the people side of politics. Fuck knows what they are saying on Rightie sites.
