Free Market Spirits, Positive Economic Soothsayers and what NZ Political Right will say when El Niño hits

I have argued for some time that we don’t have economic journalists, we have Free Market Cheerleaders, that the Free Market Spirit’s demand a never ending positivity from Economic commentators.
If one negative word is uttered, Capitalism loses its boner and the orgy of trading comes to a screaming halt.
Hilariously our Economic Soothsayers keep getting it wrong but that doesn’t stop their ‘Always-look-on-the-bright-side-of-life’ editorial policy.
Here are our Economic Soothsayers proclaiming as often as Trump claims victory in Iran, that the green shoots of recovery are now upon us…
Is the NZ economy looking up at last?
ASB economists say the worst may be mostly over for the New Zealand economy.
They have released their updated economic forecasts for the quarter, and say easing oil prices are helping to improve the outlook and reduce the risk that the country is in for another prolonged inflation shock.
They said the outlook had improved “markedly” in recent months and had changed significantly from their March forecast.

…right.
Let me see if I can get this completely straight.
Despite Trump failing with Iran and not in fact settling anything that Israel won’t attempt to destabilise, we are supposed to believe that the economy will grow at the exact same time as one of the most extreme weather events recorded in the last 150 years peaks over NZ.
I say again, PEAKS over NZ.
‘Well and truly on its way’: El Niño very likely to peak over New Zealand summer
An El Niño that peaks over the New Zealand summer is now very likely, bringing with it the risks of drought, extremely hot days and wildfire.
Earth Sciences New Zealand and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) are both warning that an El Niño event is developing, fuelled by warmer than usual waters in the tropical Pacific.
A WMO update issued overnight said there was an 80 percent chance an official El Niño event emerging during winter, with an even higher probability of that continuing until at least November.

Us, an agricultural nation dealing with the most extreme weather conditions seen in 150 years TAHT WILL PEAK OVER NZ, that isn’t going to cause any of those green shoots to be burnt from the face of the planet???
The empty optimism being spouted here is almost Trumpian in its delusion.
Let’s see how we survive what’s coming before you count those eggs, because I suspect they will have fried in the heat.
There is an enormous problem for the Right and that is the age of consequences with climate change.
You can stamp your feet and scream climate change is a socialist hoax, but the never ending crisis headed our way says otherwise.
National just got busted taking policy advice from the biggest polluters to stop being sued in Court, while ACT and NZF are wedded to deregulating big polluter industries.
There is a tipping point when voters connect the catastrophic weather events to the Political Parties enabling it and it won’t be pretty.

Independent Media is more important than ever, especially in the lead up to the Election. TDB is the largest Left Wing Blog in NZ and we have been operating for 13 years now. We get zero funding g from NZ on Air and we don’t have no rich backers. If you can donate please do so here or directly into our account – 12-3065-0133561-56

Yes we are starting to witness right wing media attacks and sycophants spewing their dirty politics as the election enters into its final months, this just the latest example…
