This election will be very close, but there is a next political generation of Māori leaders who are poised to make enormous impacts in the next Government if National, ACT and NZF lose.
Green Candidate for Waiariki – Tania Waikato: Tania is a remarkable candidate for the Greens in Waiariki and if TPM launches a candidate vote TPM and Party vote Green MMP tactical voting strategy, the additional recycled vote from TPM into Greens will ensure she gets elected off the list. Her social media influence is enormous and her role as a Treaty Lawyer demands respect. She’s the real deal.
Māori Party Candidate for Te Tai Tokerau – Aperahama Edwards: I didn’t think any candidate other than Hone Harawira had a chance of winning Te Tai Tokerau for Te Pati Māori, and then along came Aperahama, He is a staunch and generous promoter of the values of Māoridom at the highest level and has a depth of mana impossible to ignore. In a 4 way race between 3 women and 1 man, I think Aperahama has a mathematical edge that could win him the electorate.
Labour Party Candidate for Te Tai Tonga – Mananui Ramsden: By refusing to go on the Party List, Mananui is making a bold statement that demands attention. He is a quietly spoken, humble tower of a person whose intellect and confidence shine through. I think he has a very good chance of winning Te Tai Tonga.
These 3 could join an existing political generation who in a next Government could propel New Zealand towards a more perfect Treaty Partnership.
Next generation MPs like Arena Williams, Hūhana Lyndon, Kahurangi Carter, Tamatha Paul, Cushla Tangaere-Manuel and Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke.
Led by the older guard of Māori Politicians like Marama Davidson, Willie Jackson, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer and Rawiri Waititi, this next generation of Māori MPs could reshape the Political landscape in any new Government.
Politics can seem angry and empty and futile, but there are remarkable people waiting in the wings to do some extraordinary things.
We mustn’t lose faith in ourselves or the process and we must reach out to all our friends and whanau to ensure they are enrolled in this election.
Waatea News.
Finally, some heartening news on a cold, miserable Monday morning.
There are probably many young people, very well prepared, to take leadership roles in the near future once we’ve shaken off the dinosaurs and sell-outs on the right.
The first thing is to keep Seymour at bay. The second thing is to send Winston packing. And just because it will give us all so much needed pleasure, we need to send the smug, boring, lying, career politicians who just sit there taking up space, the push.
NACT1st. have allowed monsters and freaks to get into parliament and NZders aren’t monsters, on the whole. Most people are hard working and love our country. They love their families and want their families to be happy and to survive.
That being the case, those people, the homeless and needy must vote. They must find an address to use and register, so they can begin to fight for themselves.
Can institutions such as the Auckland City Mission allow people to use their address to enable them to register and vote. The Salvation Army, post offices, Marae, is this possible?
