Announcing: The Bradbury Group – NZs best weekly political argument

Comrades.

Come one.

Come all.

Having The Working Group cancelled because a Free Speech Champion has been bullied into it (his right wing mates don’t like my free speech – I know, the hypocrisy right?) has been ironic and wonderfully freeing.

I am proud to announce my brand new weekly political podcast – The Bradbury Group, in salute to the great political panel shows that were so formative for me, The Ralston Group and The McLaughlin Group.

So The Working Group is over and while watching the Libertarian you spent 5 years working with burn your collective work down in a Viking funeral that only he’s invited himself to, the oddest thing has occurred.

I have a fire in my belly.

At first I thought it was an ulcer or a stroke, but as the weeks have passed, I have felt a growing anger that I’ve spent so long creating a space to debate with the Right when they never intended to debate at all.

It was most apparent to me with the Treaty Principles Referendum select committee.

The Right didn’t want a debate over the Treaty Principles Referendum, they wanted the pretence of a debate so they could hold that engagement up and masquerade it as legitimacy.

I am sick of having a debate with the bad faith Right  and want to lead a new Political Podcast that is unashamedly Left and wanting to ask the hard questions about the issues and take the debate to the Right rather than allow them a faux rendezvous.

We have serious issues in front of us as New Zealanders and the fact that the country is currently more focused on a Senior Journalist righteously using the C word to describe the appalling war on working women this Government pulled off with zero notice and an abuse of process is a disservice to the Fourth Estate and our Democracy!

The Bradbury Group starts next week.

See you Monday with all the details and guest line up.

  1. Oh so overdue, i know how hard you have tried to engage with the Right to at least have a voice in that silo. Now you have your own unapologetic forum. Dont hold back, so many people need to have the truth.

  2. I look forward to this. I know it won’t measure up to my expectations, but it’ll be good all the same. Have you ever considered Robert MacCulloch as a participant – a spot of iconoclasm never goes astray.

    • “I know it won’t measure up to my expectations”

To be fair, most of your posts don’t either.

      • Don’t start off sniping about who is good or not. Pick out the good points, and set up a positive though critical discourse for 90% of the time. We need to not get distracted. We can only try, so remember that we all find each other trying at times, and the saying ‘The Lord loves a tryer’. We have an Everest of misconceptions to climb up and over so don’t waste time calling, thinking others ba…ds.

  3. Go Bomber, this is such. good. news.
These bad faith buggars are not worth the energy, they just suck precious oxygen. Tbh I lost interest in TWG ‘cos of Grant’s painfully ignorant bluster writ large in his demands of Modlick the night of the TPB debate event.
If the Bradbury Group proves as rich and insightful as your contributions over at Waatea, it’ll be sensational.

  4. whilst Grant was a great juxtaposition and devils advocate – he just wasn’t very good at it. Find a decent conservative who can have a rational conversation – pretty hard I know but there are a few left out there who aren’t prostituted to capital and financialization. Hickey, Hooton, Slade and even Garner and dare I say it Plunkett would be good for a laugh

  5. I look at TDB everyday. But something bizarre : I have 12,180 tracking attempts from primarily Google and Statcounter. All blocked as I use duck duck go.
The suspicious side of me wonders if New Zealand Security Intelligence Service is keeping tabs on potential subversives? From their point of view! Especially in the UK people have been sent to prison for facebook posts!

UK arrests for Social Media Posts | Konstantin Kisin https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ihonF-_aKnY?feature=share

    • Uh oh in vid, statement in 12 months 400 arrested in Russia for social media statement – but figure for Uk was 3,300. Check out if I heard it right. And then are the figures right, we need to be wary of all statements. And policeman explaining the situation of fault to someone – that their message on social media caused someone ‘anxiety’. Pfffttt. This while people are perturbed and tormented over the general and local news and happenings multiple times a day. The government in UK is not nice.

  6. Bomber the mistake is thinking you can engage with the right. Its just subjugation by them. Look what’s happening now under the current government.

There is no negotiation , listening to other groups unless they have money to donate and who will be severely disadvantaged by their polices. They will use force to keep it that way. They can’t and won’t be bargained with.

Its time to stop being nice and confront them head on.

    • That sums them up. They can’t debate, discuss, listen, or even agree to disagree. They aren’t happy till they have crushed any opposition.
Their claims of wanting to start a debate on the treaty turned out to be a complete farce, as expected, and Seymour still can’t admit he lost. Nor will he admit that he was the cause of a lot of time and money being wasted, on his charade.
A personality disorder like that should preclude someone ever being in parliament.
Time to introduce psychological testing for would-be candidates.

There’s nowhere in msm that allows for proper debate or for important ideas to be explained and discussed.
      Social media isn’t the place.
We need knowledgeable, educated people who have the nous to debate, not wrangle. It’s not as if those people don’t exist but they are kept well hidden so as not to rock the CoC’s precarious house of cards.

  7. Frankly I think Bomber you are doing what should be happening in MSM
Why do we never ever ever have a debate on TV or on RNZ about:
    our supposed independent foreign policy,
the latest shit going down where women will be undervalued yet again
the latest wankers bill being put forward by ACT – regulations…
Public health… why both major parties under budget for public health
Taxes – we we need financial transactions tax, wealth tax, death duties
What is really happening in education
    Palestine!

These things are so closed off to the general public it is truly pathetic.
I would like to see John Campbell front these debates he has the nous as has Kim Hill.

  8. Cool Bomber, first thought , although you will have one arranged, is the text!s that all those of working age receiving State SustEnAnce will if Red on their punishing trAFFIc cruel what do we call it, a signal, or more like Totalitarian rules for those receiving not State SustEnAnce, BUT QUASI TOTALITARIAN PUNISHMENT.

  9. Old socialist great granddad was a shit for the golden truth to the end of his days at 85, dallying with his maid, ‘Tilly’, even then (he had the usual human, let alone, socialist faults).

You, however, compromise for ‘ze money’. That’s what being nice to Hipkins is.

I got all my stories about him from his National Party daughter-in-law. So not a favourable report. The ‘great man’, to himself, died in 1950. His kids went to the funeral. Dear Auntie Bill said there were two piles of papers on each arm of his armchair, one for shares in failed cooperatives and the other for shares in failed socialist newspapers.
