  1. Child groomer who went to meet 10-year-old girl avoids deportation

Less about keeping Kiwi’s victims safe and preventing and punishing crimes, than rights for child groomers in NZ.

Married 22yo with multiple relationships already under his belt with kids, exposing a 10 yo girl to indecent material and arranging to meet her.

Barraca was born in the Philippines and emigrated to New Zealand with his family in 2013 when he was 18 years old. The following year he was granted permanent residency. (So as a legal adult of 18, our immigration laws allow permanent residency into NZ the next year, without needing any skills, and within 4 years in NZ, he started offending against a child, but still gets to stay in NZ. Also he has had his own child and ‘father’ to child in previous relationship (at 22yo) , but all ok, offenders rights beat the 10yo (and the other kids in NZ he comes in contact with) rights!!)

    • The legal side and the moral and compassionate side seem to have parted company. I think briefly it all relates to the neoliberal economic idea of morality that has taken over our country’s ideas around ethical behaviour. Neolib is not interested in humanity at all except as human resources for servicing business and financial interests. The approach is punitive – neolib sets a law, you have broken it, and the punishment is imposed. There is the farce of victim’s reports which are all poignant and all similar in that the core of the person or family has been pierced. But neolib doesn’t do much more, is not interested in prevention, in a good society for all with concern about each other, the whole trend is to control society in the most efficient way. And Huxley said to Orwell, that the efficiency drive will be our downfall.

As Sir Humphrey points out PM Hacker, government is to provide stability, not to set standards of morality.

(Great lines approx. – PM – Now I know about the sale of arms I should do something about it. Sir H. The sale of arms is the sort of thing you should not know about. PM – Are you saying I should lie? Sir H. – No, not you Prime Minister. PM – Then who should lie? Sir H – Sleeping dogs, Prime Minister. (I think Hacker is PM in this.) Morality in government apparently is ephemeral, and comes to earth heavily in some places, lighter or non-existent elsewhere. I am thinking of how hard D of Social Welfare have come down on mothers who can hardly smile at a man twice, or get help with mowing the lawns for the dear overlords to define the man as a partner and cut her benefit – no worrying about whether it will be sufficient for her needs. And this after all the effort of Womens Lib to get systems that give women respect and support in their lives when needed.

Just plain caring about people and celebrating each person’s individual abilities and including all at their different levels and needs is too ‘Humanities’ and what is wanted in greater study is the science, the MBAs, the computer side of engineering.

      • You have to wonder what sort of mentality wants to hook up with a 10 yo when you are married with a child at 22…. of course our pathetic immigration laws support that type of person staying in NZ after being convicted.

There are plenty of overseas folks who want to live in NZ. Sad our immigration laws seem to want to encourage the dysfunctional, criminal people into NZ to prey upon us and contribute to our constant brain drain of NZ becoming a soup of dysfunction (Tarrant, exploiters) , rather than the billions of decent people from overseas who would happily settle here and not be a burden and victimise others.

In my view, our immigration policy is a hangover of NZ neoliberalism where our Rogernoms want dysfunctional low paid people coming here to create their low wage economy and destroy our education and health and social systems by over riding them with constant demand and thus leading to a call for privatisation and asset sales to pay for the importing in of dysfunctional people.

    • Why does everyone have to be bailed out? We want winners and losers so that entrepreneurs make better decisions and choose better projects. With bailouts there doesn’t have to be any math, there doesn’t have to be anyone behind the curtain. Now we have a real hard dip vs the kiwi dollar so we have a dip coming in the kiwi dollar and those who want a payday or exit out of there shitty position should contact their superannuation provider or financial planner and make sure you cover your sore arse.

    • Tuibelle +1, yay for landfill and the environment when cheap crap is no longer being consumed and discarded into landfill.

  2. The Yank Progressives are having to consider for the 13 millioneth time about the better of 2 evils. Let none of us vote for Labour. After 36 years of their pluto-cratic beliefs. Jacinda and her first priority, poverty, says it all. Rahm Emmanuel.

Now is the best time to pinch balls. Now is the time.

But there is no talker for the truth. Let all of step up to the rostrum in turn and fail monstrously and thus blotch that vile thing of our age, a CV.

Jacinda, as a person who matters is ridiculous.
