What exactly do the Death Cult Capitalists want when they whine about lockdown level 3?

I am so glad that John Minto criticised Michael Barnett today because what exactly is it that the Death Cult Capitalists want from NZ?

NO ONE wants to be in lockdown.

NO ONE actively wants to see business fail through no fault of their own.

NO ONE likes what is happening.

But we acknowledge that with a pandemic there isn’t any other way forward, so what exactly is it that the Death Cult Capitalists want here?

I gamed out what implementing the New Conservatives racist race policy would do last week, so today, let’s game out the pandemic for the Death Cult Capitalists.

People arrive at Auckland hospital sick with the virus. The Death Cult Capitalists tell Aucklanders not to panic and that it’s important to keep the economy open because the mental health of business owners is very fragile right now and that any mention of lockdown could trigger some into a spell of sadness.

Over the next week the rate of infected starts to jump exponentially. The Death Cult Capitalists begrudgingly initiate social distancing and compulsory mask wearing ONLY SO THAT businesses can remain open.

The death toll rockets up and the virus starts to spread outside Auckland and the track and trace program quickly becomes over run because the numbers of staff can not in any way match the number of contacts that need to be contacted. Death Cult Capitalists argue that the virus was always going to get in and that we just have to keep powering our way through to keep the economy going.

The death rates spiral as fewer and fewer consumers go out to shop. Business owners complain that people are too frightened to shop as the infection rate explodes. Death Cult Capitalists blame health professionals for frightening the public.

Vast numbers of New Zealanders are now infected, the death toll eclipses those who have died in both world wars and the Death Cult Capitalists reassure Kiwis (who are now reeling with the mass deaths and mass graves alongside the far larger than expected number of those who get infected now with ongoing serious health problems) that the first wave is over and with herd immunity we can get the economy working again.

Unfortunately for the Death Cult Capitalists, the sudden shock wave of mass deaths and sickness alongside the culture of fear such mass deaths and illness inspire, has destroyed the economy and because immunity after getting infected only lasts for a few months, the second wave proves to be even more damaging than the first.

***

This pandemic response is a marathon, not a sprint. We will refine our responses and we will plug loopholes as we progress, but there’s no way in hell that anyone is going to accept mass sickness and mass graves just so the fucking private economy can make a buck.

This is the new normal!

The scientific math is that for every 1000 sick people through quarantine, 1 infected person will get through. That means a tight border with a ruthless track and trace regime alongside levelled restrictions IS THE ONLY response until we get a vaccine!

And that won’t be readily available until 2022 if we are lucky.

This is the new reality, we best start adapting to it now, whinging isn’t going to achieve that.

  1. Yes Martyn Director general of WHO and “Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, the World Health Organization’s chief scientist, told the Financial Times’ Global Boardroom webinar on Wednesday: “I would say in a four to five-year time frame”, so we could be looking at fighting this.”confirmed it yesterday that we will see the Covid 19 still with us at least until 2022.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/14/coronavirus-who-warns-it-could-take-up-to-5-years-to-control-pandemic.html

    https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/04/coronavirus-social-distancing-how-long/

“WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced criteria that should be met before countries consider easing lockdown restrictions. These include ensuring transmission of the disease is controlled, and that health systems have the capacity to detect, test, isolate and treat every COVID-19 case and trace every point of contact.”

Well that’s exactly what NZ Government are doing now.!!!!!!

    Maryn said it right here too;
“And that won’t be readily available until 2022 if we are lucky; -This is the new reality, we best start adapting to it now, whinging isn’t going to achieve that.”

  2. See here’s the thing most of “us” are still in the denial phase i.e. it’s not happening and we want things to go back to the way they were i.e. making money, buying property, living la Vida Loca whatever your consumption vibe / vice is. Totes agree with how this will play out if “they” get there way. However, I do think that “most” of us get this and want our elderly folk around us for as long as possible therefore the conclusion that I think most of us accept is. There is no economy/ society with COVID transmitting in the community and the outcome of that scenario is tumbling weeds out there in “economy land” i.e. Game Over.

  3. If we had a principled and honest media, such points would be put to these death cult capitalists, but sadly we mainly only have propaganda media and presstitutes.
I get that about 50+% of the population want a simple answer, so they don’t have to think too hard about ‘it’ and the death cult capitalists are doing a decent job of coming up with a ‘quick sound bites’ that seem ‘about right’ and the media help them by NOT asking the logical follow up questions, that show the ‘sound bite’ to be B.S and forever changing. Thus they’re get some traction, at present. That is BAD news for our team of 5 Million.

Put basically and in a few words for those that don’t want to think ‘about it’ can easily understand matters. We have two choices:
    1) A screwed economy and about 2-3 or 4,000 dead Kiwis
    or
    2) A screwed economy and the present hand full of dead.
n.b The economy was screwed as on November 2019 and Covid has just given a ‘helpful’ smoke screen to those that don’t want you to know that fact.

So given the above, any reasonable discussion, with a fair and honest media (can you see where we fall down in NZ at this point) would conclude, that though there may be a better way to handle this, NO ONE has suggested it as of yet and almost every country is doing 10x’s or more WORSE than we are. So stop shooting the guys who are doing a 95 +% excellent job.
I agree helpful remarks., encouragement from a principled opposition (again can you see where NZ fails here again) is valuable and needed in a democracy.

Come on Presstitutes and death cult capitalists, don’t loose all your massive advantages in NZ over an impossible position you’re taking. Or on second thoughts, keep going, we could do with you lot ‘gone’ for good.

  4. The ugly truth Kevin is that it doesn’t matter who is elected, a fucked economy will affect everything and everybody. Even the left minded here that might be retired or not paying off a mortgage in Auckland or anywhere else for that matter. If living standards drop enough the kind turn on the kind politically speaking. If Kind empathetic JA can’t control the economy in the next 12 months her own dear followers will turn on her. You lot included. She deserves another go but the economy will have the last say. Apart from sweet talk JA and her government haven’t convinced me they have too many ideas apart from printing money.

    • Nope, New View you are wrong. The people turning on people is a Natzo mantra or right wing dogma. The lefties as you call them will pull together and do what it takes, not controlled by the ideology of money first principles aka most Business owners. Our living standards are already low due to the low wage economy so we are entirely used to it. The majority of people will not turn on each other, that will happen to the death cult capitalists mainly, and we don’t give a rats arse about them, as they don’t give a rats about us.

      • Green bus. If your idea of how human nature and politics work is correct. How then have labour (or left wing) governments been voted out in the past. What happens, do we get bored with them are they just useless or is it that they can’t keep everybody happy. Even labour and green voters own businesses and houses. Enough of them go out of business and so does the government. Sorry.

      • Utter rubbish, the left turn on themselves all the time. Case in point this week, Polly Gillespie (a known leftie) dared criticise the condescending tone of the PM one o’clock briefings and the left turn on her with hatred and venom. Micheal Morrah points out that the ‘podium of truth’ has in fact being lying to use, and the lefties raise their pitchforks, and well done for Martyn for defending him.

Remember that the Gulags were fill on communists

        • ” her own dear followers will turn on her.” This is not about politicians or media, nor was my comment. It’s about ordinary people in NZ not turning on each other, or the current PM. Labour supporters won’t turn on Jacinda Ardern unless she seriously cocks up everything. Even if that did happen then what? Vote for National and the psycho Collins? Yeah right.

    • Printing money is a pretty potent idea providing it is the government that does the printing, rather than the trading banks as at present. It is the uncontrolled printing of money that is problematic, not the printing itself.

  5. Nice to see suicides down as closed borders means more opportunities and less competition for those already living in NZ.

Yep, now there is not 300,000+ new people coming into NZ each year (quickly becoming 1 million every 5 years) driving cars, needing housing and jobs, health care and education, justice, family court, prisons… while not needing to actually contribute anything (being a +1 of a student or a liquor job or no job but being hired through a labour hire firm, or getting into a ‘relationship’ with a NZ passport holder after 10 day online romances, or getting someone pregnant) is all that was needed to come/remain in NZ and compete for the declining resources here amongst the working poor, beneficiaries and middle class… thanks neoliberalism! Sarc.

We had to, because Kiwi’s are so lazy and drugged out…

Czech drug smuggler Karel Sroubek granted parole
    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/300084478/czech-drug-smuggler-karel-sroubek-granted-parole

“Yim was sentenced this month in the High Court at Auckland to 11 and a half years in prison for possession of a class A drug for supply.

According to Inland Revenue records neither Yim nor Wu, who arrived in New Zealand in 1991 and 1994, have ever declared their income nor paid any tax.

Yim, who came to New Zealand from Hong Kong on a resident visa before gaining citizenship in 1995, has previously been convicted on three unrelated charges.

In July 2006 he was convicted at the Auckland District Court for drink-driving and on a dangerous driving charge, while in April 1997 he was convicted of shoplifting.”

  6. “And that won’t be readily available until 2022 if we are lucky.” say Bomber.

Unless some dude gets permission to bring in the Russian vaccine!
Specially if ‘it’ demonstrates some efficacy in Russia, Basil, India and Philippines.
Might be a better prospect that waiting for the Capitalist Roadsters from USA inc who screw the hell out the globe on patented cures being excessively priced.

Meanwhile on your other point, Bomber. Its those “whining capitalist ” who risk their house mortgages to set up small businesses (which is 70 per cent of our work force) to provide an income for themselves (on which they pay tax which funds the under privileged) and invariably create a few extra jobs.

  7. Martyn, I think you don’t realise how difficult it is being a death cult capitalist is these days.

Firstly you have to make donations to political parties and individuals on district and regional councils to ensure that death-cult-capitalist enablers get elected and thereby ensure that death-cult-capitalist policies are implemented. Okay, you can hide your donations in a ‘business expenses’ category of your company accounts, but ultimately the those thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars do impact on your overall income, and might mean you will have to wait a few more months before getting the latest planet-fucker to drive around in.

Then you’ve got those pesky government departments to deal with -you know, the ones that insist on safety regulations and hygiene regulations being complied with. All that unnecessary expense providing safety barriers and disinfectants etc. impacts on your ability to fund overseas holidays (pre-Covid-19) and getaway weekends in Queenstown or Rotorua. Indeed, those pesky regulators have completely buggered up the long weekends of shopping and world-class entertainment in Melbourne.

On top of all that, in a lot of cases you’ve got staff who want to be treated fairly to deal with -you know, making totally unreasonable demands like being paid on time, being paid the correct hourly rate, getting holiday pay and sick leave etc. as legal requirements of employment Fuck ’em.

It’s getting harder to access gullible immigrants who don’t know the rules these day, what will all the bad publicity of slavery cases coming out of the woodwork and the travel restrictions!

And then there are those governmental pricks who demand that the waste you generate be properly dealt with and not tipped down the nearest drain or dumped in a dark alley or over a cliff on a dark Sunday evening.

Even worse, there’s that Thunberg bitch going around telling everyone the truth about the unsustainability of what we are doing, and how we are screwing it up for her generation.

You just don’t know how hard it is, Martyn! Even our mates in the for-profit media are starting to say that lives matter more than the short-term profits of businesses.

You just don’t know how hard it is being a death-cult-capitalist when you’ve got a $3 million home and are not generating enough cash flow to pay the people who clean it and keep the grounds looking tidy for you.

  8. Good points in this article. I do not take much of what is being said by the government seriously on Covid, (like the water care CEO/executives who didn’t plan for any droughts/population growth in Auckland properly), I lost confidence in the Covid testing process (or non testing) in March because you had to have been overseas to get the test and pass a narrow criteria to be tested, even if you were very sick and people were still flooding into NZ without being tested.

    Karl du Fresne
    https://karldufresne.blogspot.com/2020/08/incompetence-is-one-thing.html

Things are looking good in NZ comparatively, but if Covid starts spreading into a high needs community like Pacifica or Maori or rest homes or start infecting hospitals, then NZ’s death rate on Covid could change rapidly.

There are also people who will die because they can’t access operations and medical care in NZ they need now, due to Covid.

  9. Another excellent article by Chris Martenson, this time indicating what is about to happen and how ordinary folk need to avoid increasing their degree of slavery.

Also, Chris makes some scathing comments about the enablers, the people who know what they are doing is wrong, but, because they are one step from the effect, do it anyway.

Being ‘One Step Removed’ Is All Evil Needs

Slavery can exist when there’s a system that allows it. It’s a combination of morals (or, rather, lack thereof) and laws that allow one human to control the daily actions of another. Neither a slave’s time nor personal freedom belong to them.

I learned a long time ago that most humans, at best, have what we might call ‘shallow’ morals. There are chemical engineers who would never dump a toxin directly into a child’s cereal bowl, because that would be immoral; but they’ll casually and routinely inject toxins into groundwater tables (which may eventually end up in the local milk supply) because they have an EPA permit to do so.

If questioned, these same engineers know that there’s a chance, maybe even a very good chance, that the injected chemicals could end up somewhere unintended. But because their actions today are one step removed from the consequences of tomorrow, that’s enough to get them off of a moral hook.

In other words, their morals don’t extend past that first action — they stop right there. They are therefore ‘shallow’ morals.

‘Deeper’ morals would include a sense of responsibility for the entire lifespan of the chemicals in question.

Similarly, mortgage companies are staffed to the gills with people who could never themselves forcibly eject an elderly person and all of their possessions onto the curb outside the home they’d lived in for 50 years. It would be morally upsetting.

But they routinely submit the paperwork that causes these things to happen nonetheless.

Luckily for the mortgage company workers it’s the sheriffs deputies who actually handle the evictions. Luckily for the sheriffs involved, somebody else’s decision was responsible for the eviction. Both the sheriffs and the mortgage company employees are similarly insulated from any moral qualms because neither was directly responsible for Granny or Grampa’s plight. They’re just “following orders”.

‘One step removed. That’s all it takes

  10. This lockdown was not the only way. Full stop.
It is a virus that is scarcely more problematic than the flu.
The reason it appears to be so much worse is because of all the co-morbidity deaths of people who were barely hanging on a anyway.
There is a vast difference between dying OF corona virus and dying WITH corona virus.
Additionally the world has tested practically every person who has died over the last 6 months for corona virus.
If they tested them for the common cold or flu they would have likely got similar results.
As a result we get chicken littles like you crying that the sky is falling.
We have suffered devastating economic carnage that will result in more pain than the corona virus would have, PLUS we are in a situation where we are likely to ignore a truly dangerous pandemic (think smallpox) because of this.

    • ‘It is a virus that is scarcely more problematic than the flu.’

      Really?

So what you are saying is that all the people who have reported never fully recovering from a bout of Covid-19 are just making up stories. And all the medical research that demonstrates long-term damage to organs is just made up, faux research generating faux findings. Hmm.

‘As a result we get chicken littles like you crying that the sky is falling.’

The amusing aspect for me about a lot of the stuff that is going on now is that I was labelled ‘chicken little’ for providing well-documented warnings and more than ample evidence to the organisations I had dealings with -most notably NPDC- that the whole system was unsustanable and that the policies they were so proud of were utterly dysfunctional.

Guess what? I was right all along and they -the scoffers and mockers and laughers- were wrong, so wrong their systems are at the point of collapse (and not just because of the Covid-19 cases in Auckland).

I’ve got news for the scoffers and mockers and laughers: what we are experiencing now is just the beginning of a total meltdown of most existing social and economic arrangements.

I know denial of reality is a lot easier than dealing with it but if you deny reality for too long and don’t deal with reality, then reality deals with you.

      • And how many people are reported as dying from the regular flu each year? The answer is more than 400,000.
If they actually tested everyone who died in the world for flu, I betcha dollars to donuts the figures would be a LOT LOT higher.
People need to stop wetting their panties over this.

        • So Jays, out of the 400,000 who you say die of flu (Is that per annum, per winter season, per month or per week? And is that worldwide? In America? In NZ since records began? Because without a population base and without a time scale it is a meaningless number)….

yes, Yays, out of the 400,000 you say die of flu, what proportion are under the age of 30? What proportion ad children? What proportion are babies? Or are the 400,000 predominantly sick, old people waiting for the next crisis to take them out?

And what do you say to the relatives of the 31-year-old woman who died a few weeks ago in the US, having gone to a [catch] Covid-19 party, and whose last words before dying were: “I made a big mistake. I thought it was all a hoax!” ? (Kindly note the question mark outside the quote.)

You might also like to note this:

          https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/worldwide-graphs/

          • 400,000 die of malaria every year, most of them are under five, and no one cares because it happens in Africa. BUT old rich people in western countries start dying (not of heat disease) and people lose their shit. A little perspective please

            • Yep.

And depending on who you believe, up to 30,000 children die of starvation and disease and lack of drinking water EVERY DAY.

They are in mostly Africa, Asia and South America. As you say, it’s when rich white people start dying in ‘developed’ nations that the western media take notice.

That’s probably because ‘one American is worth 100 Africans/Asian/South Americas’.

            • Well this virus has the potential to kill millions a year and given this is the first year of this strain, I suggest your comparison is a little premature. Perspective given.

        • “I betcha”
Sounds more of a hunch than any sound research. You could do the research and gain good hard evidence rather than a punt.
My question is how many people fully recover from the flu and go on to live normal lives that don’t have everlasting longterm damage to their organs?
I suggest once this is answered you may stop wetting your own panties.

  11. Great article Martyn. The likes of Barnett whinge and whine, but no one is asking them for an alternative and how it would play out. Press not doing its job, just flaming criticism

  12. It is interesting for me (and many others, I’m sure) that, having been confronted with facts, ‘jays’ has fallen silent.

That falling silent is the essence of the National Party and the business-as-usual mob.

They generate false narratives on the basis of no information or disinformation, argue for a while, then fall silent because they haven’t got a leg to stand on and haven’t got any answers.

    disinformation
    [ˌdɪsɪnfəˈmeɪʃ(ə)n]
    NOUN
false information which is intended to mislead, especially propaganda issued by a government organization to a rival power or the media

Well, actually they don’t fall completely silent. Having lost the debate on the day, they are back at it -generating false narratives on the basis of no information or disinformation a day or two later!

The frequent shuffling and replacement of National ‘leadership’ is symptomatic of the bullshit they constantly generate and present to the public, at what they think are opportune moments. It must be quite stressful trying to remember what lies were spoken last week, or the week before, when this week’s lies are somewhat different and inconsistent with last week’s lies.

Let’s face it, when there were still plenty of resources to loot and pollution levels were still manageable the National bullshit machine was able to dupe a substantial portion of the masses into believing the garbage they generated as policy.

With a large portion of the populace not voting (because they no longer believe in the system) a party can get into office on the basis of a support from just 2 out of 10 people. (Tony B Liar managed to retain his position as PM on the basis of 36% of a roughly 50% turnout, i.e. 18% of the populace able to express their approval actually did so. The 64% who voted against Tony B Liar were split between other parties. Yes, that was first past the post, and MMP does deliver a slightly more equitable results. But it was possible for National to govern (if you can call it that) with little support because of disunited opposition and awful lot of apathy and disengagement.

It doesn’t take a lot of skill to open up the lolly jar and hand out lollies to your mates, and allow a few to fall into the hands of a relatively small sector of society whilst declaring (lying) to the rest of the populace, “The economy is doing really well but, sorry, there are no lollies for you. However, if you return us to power we might find some for you next time.”

Guess what: the lolly jar is almost empty and the supply of lollies has almost dried up (for whoever is in power).

  13. If I may speak for the “Death Cult Capitalists”?

The strategy to isolate NZ from the rest of the world looks OK for the moment (although more recently it is looking a little frayed around the edges) but it cannot last. The virus is now globally endemic and phenomenally difficult to track and eliminate. So as sure as hell, it will come back here at some point in the near future, and that’s if it isn’t already being passed around as I write. With 90% of cases being asymptomatic, we’d never even know if it is in the community without a massive testing regime. Its rate of mutation makes a vaccine seem a remote possibility although the peddlers of such things may say otherwise. (It’s in the same family of virus as the common cold and where’s the vaccine for that?)

We have to face up to the fact that we will get reinfected sooner or later so vastly expensive attempts to postpone the inevitable aren’t particularly smart.

One of the problems the government has created for itself is in only consulting people from the medical sphere. Unfortunately the medical fraternity have a one-eyed approach to health in that they see their duty as ‘saving lives’ on an individual basis, regardless of the wider cost. This is an unrealistic world view for making policy and is inherited from the 17th century when the profession was in its infancy. In a modern society we make trade-offs all the time, because it is the only rational basis for decision making. For example Pharmac doesn’t have an infinite budget so it has to weigh up the value of each drug against what the same amount of money could achieve by buying another drug so maybe someone has to go without a lifesaving drug. The NZTA tries to rationally allocate its road safety budget so as to save the maximum number of lives per dollar, but that means some accident black spots continue to kill people.

Renowned academics in the field of social economics emphasize that we are not comparing lives with money but lives with lives! The data for OECD countries is showing that the diagnosis and treatment of potentially curable but ultimately fatal conditions has fallen by over 80% because people either cannot get in for treatment or are afraid to do so. How many cervical smears, breast scans, prostate checks, skin cancer checks colonoscopies, elective surgeries etc have been cancelled? They are anticipating a tsunami of deaths in the next few years due to other conditions that will massively outweigh the death rate due to Covid-19.

At the same time it would be foolish to ignore the qualitative loss of life and its enjoyment due to the lock-downs: The loss of education opportunity by the poorer members of society, the business failures, job losses, the resulting depressions and suicides and finally the debt burden placed upon the next generation.

Regardless of whoever wins this election, they are going to forced to have a mature conversation with kiwis that goes a LOT further than “be kind” .

  14. Have you been down to the CBD?

Have you noticed all the homeless on the streets.

The homeless that were housed in the last lockdown were all dumped back on the street when we returned to level 1 after the last lockdown.

The homeless have not been provided with somewhere to shelter this time.

This is huge victory for the business as usual Death Cult Capitalists.

The poverty and homelessness on the streets is just how they like it.

Largess for landlords nothing for tenants.

While people are living in the open during a pandemic private landlords are getting scandalously high subsidies for slum accomodation with the full knowledge and complicity of the MSD

    https://www.newsroom.co.nz/landlords-paid-3k-a-week-by-government

The government refuse to heed calls of small proprietors and vendors facing bankrupcy for even the slightest rent and mortgage relief.
As Michael Barnett pointed out (arguing against the lockdown), many of these small proprietors business loans are tied to the mortgage on their residential home, they too could soon be joining the homeless.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/300083816/rent-saga-a-death-knell-for-some-auckland-businesses

  15. Having not read your article, just admiring your description of capitalism at this stage. Imagine if there was a true descent from ‘Big Norm’ in Labour. Democratic politics is short-term like dictatorships. Why it doesn’t help us in this final situation.
