Jacinda like a Boss takes a 20% pay cut when she deserves a 20% pay rise

Jacinda Ardern takes 20 per cent pay cut alongside all her ministers and public sector bosses – even Ashley Bloomfield

The Prime Minister and Dr. Ashley Bloomfield will both take a 20 per cent pay cut, along with all ministers and public sector CEOs.

Jacinda Ardern announced the pay cut at her daily Covid-19 press conference.

The cut will last for six months, and also includes public service chief executives.

Taking a pay cut during the pandemic to show solidarity with those in lockdown is extraordinary because as far as I’m concerned, she deserves a 20%  pay raise for the incredible leadership she has shown during this event.

This incredible graph says it all really…

…look, there are real issues with her Government. It’s lack of real progress on a vast range of important Left wing issues like housing, poverty, inequality and meaningful climate crisis legislation but you can’t question her leadership through a white supremacist terror attack, a volcanic eruption and her compassion in the face of Death Cult Capitalists.

She has earned a second term.

  1. Totally agree Martyn. The New Zealand curve on the chart, especially when compared to the rest of the world, is testament to Jacinda’s superb leadership. Yet there will still be those who will continue to do everything they can to denigrate Jacinda. If she found a vaccine for COVID-19 they would find a reason to criticise her. If she masterfully manages the economic climate, which I believe she is doing and will continue to do, they will continue to criticise her. What is it about these people who fill this category? Oh, I know, they cannot handle young intelligent women especially young intelligent women who are leaders. Somehow it makes them feel insecure and inadequate, probably highlighting their own internal weaknesses. Luckily they are in the minority.

    • Political right wing factions along with various corporate sectors and lobby groups contract the likes of Hooton, Hosking, Soper and all the sycophantic cling-on poodles in the MSM to sow the seeds of dissension. We should know all their names and what streets they live on.

      • Better still, cut the umbilical cord to the MSM that support their lifelines, after all it appears the Herald is struggling, which given its slanted content is hardly surprising. Could Hosking survive on $585 a week?

  2. Umm,, some of us in business are EXPECTED (under the wage subsidy scheme) to take a 30%+ hit to our income! So you’ll forgive me if I’m not the slightest bit impressed with her hollow gesture.
Infact lets be honest, our 120 MP’s, councillors, council CEO’s in particular are way overpaid for the size & population of NZ!

  3. Jacinda like a Boss takes a 20% pay cut when she deserves a 20% pay rise……….Oh FUCK OFF YOU WANKER

    • I know why you’re upset Gary.

You’re thinking why didn’t Martyn go the whole hog and suggest the obvious: that the useless twit running the Nashnull Party take a 100% pay cut.

And yeah you’re right – poor old Soiman has been shown up to be the irrelevant venal fool he is.
But for those of us stuck in isolation without a pet, his constant barking has reminded us of what a pain they can be sometimes. A small consolation I suppose.

    • Gary – great response. Thank you. Yet again it is a typically negative angry retort from you, a bit like run-off from a toxic swamp and it absolutely confirms what youngsuffrajet said, especially the bit about not being able to handle young intelligent women and feeling insecure and inadequate. Next you will blame Jacinda for wrecking the economy because she and her government put the country into level 4 lockdown.

    • Gary – why don’t you go back to living underneath a bridge somewhere…..somewhere far away from good people; somewhere where you can gaze into a putrid puddle and look at your own reflection and bark madly at yourself.

  4. certainly has been a volatile environment to govern in this term

just as much as any other PM , Jacinda’s earnt every dollar . i never considered that she should or shouldn’t , take a paycut but has so good on her .

  5. ” She has earned a second term ”

Well Bomber that will be up too the public too decide and the number are as tight as a gnat’s chuff between the centre and the centre right blocks in a mmp parliament based on the continuing trend since 2017.

Look i can’t fault her for stepping up and dealing with some god awful issues and the difference between her and Bridges could not be clearer and she does possess a genuine , compassionate style that has served as well.

But that’s the job and why they get paid an awesome amount of money and benefits including super that is extremely generous.

I applaud her taking the lead and taking a pay cut but her biggest reward should not be a pay rise but achieving a second term with the numbers too govern with the Greens for three years.

I am far from happy with the lacklustre performance of her administration and most of us on the TDB are of the same opinion and write regularly how fed up we are that we don’t have a real centre left government.

But as we limp on too the general election on September 19th there will be a lot too seriously think about when we go too choose the next government.

If Jacinda can have her own government with a clear agenda and undertake a much needed cabinet re shuffle and dump some real non performers and stamp her own authority on the public service then no one will argue when she gets her next pay rise.

  6. I think it’s the wrong question. Rather, do we, the people of Aotearoa, deserve another chance with a leader who actually gives a damn? A leader who exemplifies leadership of the people. A leader who has earned the respect of others all around the world.

Or are we too blind, to dense, too self-centre’d, to materialistic, too demanding of instant rewards, too disloyal (the “Left), too sly and underhand (the “Right), too bullying (the baying-for-blood wannabe big-media “journos’).

Do we deserve another chance to actually work with her, as she initially asked of us (“Let’s do this”), rather than attacking and smearing and focussing on what has not been able to be achieved in the time and conditions that were available.

Do we? I really don’t know.

  7. More BS from the PM!
    PM’s Salary $478k+$296k+($288,900×3)= $1,640,700.00×20%= $328,140.00
    PM’s $233.6k short.

1.Salary as MP. 2.PMDC Cabinet Minister
    3.Minister Security &Intelligence
    4. Minister Art Culture & Heritage
    5. Minister of Keeping Kids in Poverty

  8. Here’s the PM’s real salary:

    PM’s Salary $478k(1)+$296k(2)+($288,900×3(3,4,5) = $1,640,700.00×20% = $328,140.00
    PM’s $233.6k short.

    1.Salary as MP.
    2.PMDC Cabinet Minister
    3.Minister Security & Intelligence
    4. Minister Art Culture & Heritage
    5. Minister of Keeping Kids in Poverty

  9. What a weird time for the executive to debate remuneration. The government have had three years to address their salaries and they do it in the middle of a medical crisis, to show their solidarity? Just looks a bit virtue signally and also condescending when a lot of people suddenly don’t know when their next paycheck will be. Don’t get me wrong, Jacinda is probably one of the best world leaders to emerge in modern times but these sacrifice Olympics we see every day, along with every pseudo celebrity telling us to stay home and save lives is becoming a joke. Though another joke is the fact that Ashley Bloomfield and other government executives get paid more than the Prime Minister.

    • these sacrifice Olympics we see every day

It was Seymour who brought it up – he put it out there. Once it was on the table, it had to be acted on.

  10. For the second time, this is a hats off to Channel three. Earlier it was for The Project, who have upped their game considerably from where they once were and have become much more human-centre’d, immediate, unpretentious and Kiwi-as.

This time it is in appreciation of Newshub’s Managing Editor for digital, Mark Longley. At a time when other news outlets are oftentimes throwing shade and subtly (or not so subtly) undermining her efforts, Mark has posted this: Trump v Ardern – How our Prime Minister trumped the most powerful man in the world Well worth a read.
