  1. Regardless of when the current lockdown rules change, New Zealand’s government and authorities will retain exceptional powers over people’s lives until the country is no longer in a state of emergency. These powers – from telling people to stay home to potentially making vaccinations or testing mandatory – can infringe on several rights and liberties.

The intrusions have been relatively limited so far, but since emergency powers could continue beyond the level 4 lockdown, it’s worth knowing how that affects your rights now.

Apr.17/20 from Alexander Gillespie (a Professor of Law at the University of Waikato.)
The article was originally published in The Conversation.
The Conversation is an on-line outlet for academics to publicly put forward authoritative comments and work.
We should remember that much of the academic world has been saturated in neoliberal economics thinking
and critique their findings as we read. It began in Australia in 2011 and many countries are now involved.

  2. Rabid companies lobbying the government to spy on NZers full-time

    In Stuff today

reports that craven weirdos are frothing at the mouth to implement 24 hour surveillance and geolocation of New Zealand citizens. It appears this bout of mild influenza may have been a Trojan horse after all, though unlike the slick Covid Unite promotional material which appeared as fast as the virus itself, this creepy bullshit still needs approval from the government. Under the guise of being able to track infectious contacts, the bluetooth-enabled card would be required to be carried by citizens at all times, harking back to an era of Nazi identity cards. Expect forced medical procedures (maybe a vaccination or two) and experimentation on certain sector’s of society (minorities) next. Jam your card up your arse and fuck off you sick, money grubbing sociopaths.

  3. Terry Waite. This man could belong to a 1% group – probably less than that – who have spent time in incarceration and come out of it still functioning and humane.

In 1980, as the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Special Envoy to the Middle East, Waite helped negotiate the release of hostages in Lebanon.
Seven years later, Waite tells Jesse Mulligan, he was a hostage himself – with no idea whether he’d ever be released or even survive the day….
When you’re taken hostage, you have to manage a high degree of anxiety and uncertainty, Waite says.
Early on, he knew that if he dwelled too much on the negative he’d easily fall into depression.
Instead, he tried to use his mental abilities to focus on the positive.
