Fuel Supply Crisis NZ: Seymour and Winston Wrong

David Seymour and Winston Peters keep insisting the fuel supply crisis is manageable, but global energy warnings are pointing the other way. With the Strait of Hormuz disruption already hammering oil flows and prices, the question is no longer whether New Zealand feels it — it’s how hard motorists get smashed at the pump.
Okay.
So, this was Winston Peters three weeks ago…

…three weeks later, he’s still wrong.
Now, here’s David Seymour singing the same tune…
Seymour optimistic about ‘continuity of fuel supply without restrictions’
Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour is optimistic about “continuity of fuel supply” without the need for restrictions.
Seymour, speaking to Stuff in Auckland on Sunday, was responding to the latest developments in the Middle East conflict, including the downing of an American fighter jet in Iran and the continuation of missile strikes across the region.
Stuff
…so you have Winston (who has already been proven wrong) and Seymour telling us not to panic, everything is fine and this tiny little blip won’t matter.
That’s easy for right-wing New Zealand politicians who refuse to criticise Trump and Israel for starting this illegal war to tell us this will all be over soon as we get kicked in the balls every time we fill up at the petrol station.
So what do the actual energy experts say?
So what does IEA’s executive director say?
The global energy crisis caused by the war in Iran is equivalent to the combined force of the twin oil shocks of the 1970’s and the fallout of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the head of the International Energy Agency has warned.
Fatih Birol, the IEA’s executive director, said the growing fallout could be seriously compounded through interruptions to the “vital arteries of the global economy”, including petrochemicals, fertilisers, sulphur and helium.
…worse than the 1970’s oil shock and the Ukraine war combined!!
And what does JP Morgan say?
What follows is what “don’t panic” looks like when you compare it with the data.

Believe JP Morgan and the IEA — or believe Seymour and Winston
You can choose to believe JP Morgan and the executive director of the IEA, or you can believe two right-wing politicians who helped oversee the Marsden Point fiasco, scrapped EV subsidies and now want everyone to relax while fuel costs climb. Their whole political mythology is that the Left panics and overspends while the market sorts everything out. Tell that to the people paying at the pump.

The reason this RW CoC-up is facing an enormous hurdle is patently clear. Seymour, Peters and the hapless Luxon haven’t a clue! They can’t fix this with “wishful thinking”. They are all part of this “failed” CoC so this is upon them and their parties! Wake up; grow up and STOP LYING to our NZ people.
What solutions has Chris Hipkins put forward. ?
At least the Greens have put forward a plan and true to form TPM have ranted but no plan
Trevor, Trevor, Trevor – please do read the news! Hipkins has clearly stated that he will not be revealing his party’s main policies until after the 28/5/26 budget!
In the meantime it is just criticism of those that are doing something. Those in power learnt from the mess that Labour created in the way they dealt with the covid fallout by giving out money like a money tree was on each corner.
Oh Trevor, just because you repeat the simplistic lies of the National Party regarding Covid doesn’t make them true.
Don’t forget, National voted for all the Covid spending legislation and wanted even greater largesse for businesses.
Our spending, inflation and CPI rises were broadly in line with the rest of the world during and after Covid.
However only a few countries were stupid enough to introduce austerity and reduce government spending. Because it’s been proven those measures only retard growth by removing demand. Especially in NZ where the State is essentially 35% of the economy.
Don’t worry though Trev, the last quarter saw a nearly 400 million dollar increase in net capital outflow and the ratings agencies saying we’re heading for a credit downgrade due to this government stripping crown revenue.
Good work Nicola!
Did you see your patron saint of Biz Bros stumbling around today? Couldn’t remember any of the Maori members of his cabinet and later on walked past his about to be sworn in, brand new, top class, laser focused MP’s…
And didn’t recognise them!
You never reply to me Trevor… Why is that?
Come on wallflower, get out on the dancefloor.
