The level of poverty in NZ is a sick political choice
The New Zealand Council of Christian Social Services has released a new report last week, which shows that 10.2 percent of the population experiencing relative income poverty, Māori unemployment is 11%, Māori youth unemployment is 19%, 51 percent of Māori households experience moderate to severe food insecurity and 16.5% of the total population are living in relative income poverty after housing costs.
That’s over 860 000 Kiwis living in poverty.
This is Aotearoa New Zealand. The home of Egalitarianism, the place where the 40 hour week was forged and women fought for the vote first and we stood tall on nuclear free.
How we have ended up with a privatised bastardisation that has 860 000 living in poverty is an abomination.
The Greens and TPM are the only ones who have offered up real tax policy that seeks to redress that.
The greatest argument the elites can make when attacking the Green Party Tax policy is that the mega wealthy will all leave NZ if we do.
Really?
And where exactly will they be going?

860,000 people living in poverty and food insecurity and, Act, National, NZFirst, Labour, Opportunity and Greens all plan to continue taxing food after the election.
A poverty stricken family go down to Pak n Sav to buy $100 of food and find Nicola Willis at the door telling them tough luck you can only have $85 of food, go to a food bank, its your fault you dont make bank like me.
NO GST ON FOOD!
Notice it’s the Boomers who have the money in that picture. The boomers are hoarding the wealth..
Yes, that over 860,000 Kiwis are living in poverty in NZ is a sick politial CHOICE, and is why Greens must be part of the next government. If Hipkins can’t see this then he’s not up with the play. Why would NZ have one of the lowest top tax rates, the average of this chart is 46? It beggars belief! We have families living on the street, out of cars, in rellies’ garages/sheds, tents. It wouldn’t be so bad if their wages had kept up with inflation, but they haven’t and never will under a National-led government. It’s obscene and disgusts me to the core. I wish the mega-weathy would flee our country, but of course they won’t – they are onto such a good thing! Well that’s about to change. Make sure your vote counts – mine sure is going to!
