Luxon Government Off Track To Meet Almost All Climate Targets – Greens

The Climate Commission has today warned that unless we get a serious Government willing to take real action in the next 12 to 24 months, we are at risk of missing almost all of our climate targets.
“Christopher Luxon came to power and shredded climate action, meaning we’re now off track to meet almost all of our climate targets. This isn’t about numbers on a page. This is about people’s lives and livelihoods,” says Green Party Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick.
“New Zealanders have experienced a State of Emergency on average every eight days this year. This isn’t abstract. This is climate change.”
“Luxon’s Government has made active, consistent decisions to make climate change worse for the past three years.”
“They tell us they’re doing this because they want to support the economy. Climate change will cost us billions. They tell us it’s for farmers. Farmers are hit first and worst by climate change.”
“It doesn’t have to be this way. The Greens have shown we can lower bills, build local resilience, protect jobs and adapt to the changing climate by investing sensibly in ourselves.”
“The next 12 to 24 months are, in the Commission’s words, critical. That means that we all desperately need a change of Government, with the Greens at the heart of it, if New Zealanders want real climate action and a lower the cost of living,” says Swarbrick.
