National Drops The Mask, Six Months Before Election 2026

Six months before the 2026 election, the National Government has stopped pretending to be moderate. From beneficiaries and disabled people to State tenants, public workers and MΔori, the mask has slipped and the cruelty is now the strategy.
Pow.
Suddenly National have dropped the facade of being centrist and are leaning into open malice for those their remaining redneck voters despise.
The gasp inducing punch to public workers, these people…

…is because redneck Taxpayers’ Union Fundamentalists see all tax as theft and all public jobs as a scam.
These are the voters National is trying to win back.
National Government attacks beneficiaries while rewarding the rich
Their attack on beneficiaries and the gerrymandering of benefit thresholds to save money…
Tucked alongside the Governmentβs social housing announcement this week was another Budget cut set to impact thousands of low-income New Zealanders.
Housing Minister Chris Bishop announced plans to overhaul the social housing system on Thursday, with the first changes incorporated into next weekβs Budget.
Those changes to government accommodation support from 2027 would require social housing tenants to contribute more of their income to accommodation costs, while the accommodation supplement for low-income households in private rentals would increase.
Modelling provided with the announcement showed it would leave 111,000 families in the private rental market better off, but 84,000 families in social housing worse off.
Stuff
…is made more ugly when you appreciate the money taken from beneficiaries is going to the rich as tax cuts and corporate welfare for big tobacco and polluters.
The Government’s attack on the disabled community is simply cruel…
βIβve never seen a more disgusting piece of legislationβ: Paid family carers decry law change
Families of disabled New Zealanders are calling a new government bill designed to provide a βfoundational legislative frameworkβ to Disability Support Services βunfairβ and βdisgustingβ.
The bill was introduced by Disability Issues Minister Louise Upston this week and is set to have its first reading on Thursday.
Stuff
…but National have to find money for their donors interests over and above the needs of the disabled community.
And as for the disgraceful Treaty Principles Referendum via stealth…
Government targets 19 pieces of legislation for Waitangi Treaty amendments
The government has agreed to amend references to the Treaty of Waitangi across 19 pieces of legislation.
Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith said the amendments would ensure references to the principles of the treaty are clear and consistent.
RNZ
…National have allowed the centrist mask to slip and reveal the true sociopathic free marketeers they really are.
It’s made more malicious by its drive to win beck reactionary vote National have lost to Winston.
Why National thinks the people it hurts wonβt fight back
This is a carnival of resentment and National think they can do this to Beneficiaries, Workers, Disabled, State Tenants and MΔori with impunity because they believe you are all too scared to fight back.
National believe they can use you like a cheap racist joke in sad stand up comedy routine because you are too tired, too broken and too consumed by the struggle to live that you won’t bother voting.
National have gerrymandered the election rules this year to cut off enrolments from the very groups they are now attacking so that even if you do try to fight back and vote, you won’t be included.
Prove them wrong.
Prove these right wing arseholes wrong.
Enrol today and vote tomorrow.
Fight back against these callous rich pricks who would so gleefully use your pain as political performance art.
Fight back now.

There are thousands of people in New Zealand who never vote β Often working-class people who are cynical about both parties. Why Labour isn’t trying to grab their votes I don’t know β I suspect it’s because they are no longer a working-class party, but a party for professionals and aspirationals. But these people are coming out to vote in the US because they are disgusted with Trump’s government and Trump’s economy. I guess we really have to be properly in the shit to motivate some people.
Because many of those classes of people you are referring to in your post never vote
There are still some amazing caring guilless people in N.Z….However…we now have so many disgusting, disgraceful, self- interested, self-absorbed, it’s all about me me me people inhabiting this country….and they’ll cheat and lie and corrupt to get what they want, and believe that they deserve everything.
Willis…the daughter of a lawyer, who more than likely charges out at $1000 an hour or more, believes poor people who live in s state house, often through no fault of their own, have… ” hit the jackpot”.
Luxon …who flicks properties and games them…using them like some Ponzie scheme to make tax free gains on the rises…thus shutting the real hardworking, savers out ….not only that…but uses inside knowledge to make even larger profits…
But also claimed $52,000 a year, from the taxpayer…(who is working and saving for their own home)… on his own mortgage free apartment…whilst still living in it ..while Government House sat empty.
Then he claimed extra discounts on luxury EV cars whilst rubbishing anything green.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of how lot this lot can go.
Just imagine, for one second, the indulged, and in turn, self-indulged, off- spring, that that lot are breeding up.
The greed the greed the greed…it’s here more than ever… entrenched..
and now here for decades to come.
Good on you N.Z….well done!
Exactly. The very people who are so hung up and blinded about how they’ve heard, don’t know – just heard, some people get legal aid etc. cannot understand all the constant rorts the elites are constantly playing. The rates rebates, the tax rebates, the entitlements, the unjustified wage rises when everyone else is getting nothing, it goes on in ways I don’t even know.
I couldn’t imagine making such claims on the pubic purse. I wouldn’t ever think about it or try it. It’s so obviously greedy and wrong to my thinking.
But some people seem to live that way. Legal aid is a drop in the ocean.
All of the cuts are to protect current and future funding for New Zealand superannuation and public health.
Everything else governments do will be allowed to wither.
The disabled, the homeless, and the unemployed may or may not actually vote β but the retired sure as hell will vote against the party that cuts their superannuation payment.
Right now Ada, elderly people around the country who live in pensioner housing are being issued with 90 day eviction notices or informed they’ll be receiving one soon enough, and expect rent increases in the meantime. The amount of stress this is generating amongst my neighbours and indeed family members is absolutely through the roof because they know the dire state of housing availability in this country. Where the hell are they going to go? What will become of [them]? What a betrayal by National and NZF, ever ready to punch down including on seniors. I agree that the coalition government are running a protection racket, just not the one you’re suggesting.
Again with more of your assumptions Ada…
“All of the cuts are to protect current and future funding for New Zealand superannuation and public health.”
Given the government has underfunded health in real terms( public health cuts and redundancies in health as evidence) and continue to tinker with Kiwisaver, this government have no such intention to protect anything other than corporate polluters as just one example.
I’m not only hurting for those being fleeced yet again, I’m DISGUSTED! “Christian” Luxon is now showing his true form. I recently said he despises the poor but now I don’t believe it’s because he feels guilty or embarrassed, it’s simply huge doses of spite and malice and gives him a ‘sick’ sense of power. His CoC is happy for Upston to “milk” a further $1k/wk to rent a flat in Wellington when she already owns one there? But, hey why not, in for a penny, in for a pound! Greedy Bast&&ds! Why in hell should the grossly ‘under paid’ continue to subsidise the ‘graspingly greedy’ who feel such a huge sense of self-entitlement when they are already having what little they have syphoned off for landlords, mining scum and the tobacco industry? How can ANYONE with any vestige of decency and fairness sit by and watch this happen? These same ‘top-feeders’, who dodge as much tax as they can, and go bankrupt with impunity, look down on what Luxon calls the ‘bottom-feeders’ with no conscience, empathy, or kindness. BUT don’t forget what goes around, comes around and it’s coming fast-track!
No mate, theyβre just being true to their National party and their voters Values.
When Upston was asked to explain why she gets a thousand dollars per week for accommodation she suggested press direct questions to ‘her office’, to which her office had nothing to say. Not only do welfare dependant ministers get 50 times the accommodation benefit of ordinary NZers but they are not even obliged to justify their greed. It’s time for change. When Labour coalition get into government in November they must reduce the accommodation benefit for ministers (as well as travel expenses and what the hell else they get) to the lowest level received by society i.e. that of those on job seeker disability. This is the meaning of public service, to represent communities as one of us, to live without largesse, to get a fair salary to work and live and not abuse the system. They must also abolish any lifelong benefits for politicians such as all current pensions, as they will get super when they turn 65. And don’t complain, blame it on hypocrites like Upston and National who wrecked our country.
