By signing Free Trade deal with India, Labour gift Winston another 5%
When Labour refused to de-escalate the Dumb Lives Matter protest on Parliament’s lawns, I said at the time that the Left had permanently lost 5% of the vote.
What no one on the Left wanted to recognise was that half of those at that protest voted Greens or Labour.
Allowing Mallard to play the bullshit games he did and livestream it to the nation manufactured a grievance that has never healed.
Labour are about to do the same again by voting for the India Free Trade deal.
I know a 40 year old pakeha woman who is a cleaner.
She has been told by her boss that contracts are being cut back because migrants are under cutting their prices and she is losing work.
She says she is voting for Winston because he’ll stop the Indians coming.
Thew reality is that for many domestic working class people, mass immigration puts direct threat to their livelihoods.
I have worked in the past preparing cases against Kiwis who exploit migrant workers.
It might sau the student can only work 20 hours, but the bottle owner who holds their passport and green lights their stay works them 50 hours a week!
NZ is a low wage addicted economy and we exploit migrant workers every single day of the week.
We have 95 Labour Inspectors vs 235,000 temporary migrant workers.
There is no way near the number of labour Inspectorates to police the exploitation of migrants.
There is an easy way for Labour and the Left to hear and protect the concerns of domestic workers.
Enrol every single migrant worker coming into NZ automatically and universally into a migrant workers Union to ensure their conditions and pay are the same for domestic workers.
NZ is a liberal progressive democracy, its promise is the intrinsic civil liberty respect for you as an individual, that you enjoy the full reach of your agency and that you can look into the face of your child and know they will get a better deal than you did.
It is offensive and obscene that migrant workers are exploited the way they are and if we are true to them being Kiwis, we must protect them with universal union membership!
That way domestic working class will welcome their migrant brothers and sisters, not be resentful of them.
There is a way to disarm NZ Firsts anti-migrant position, but it demands we recognise the legitimate fears the domestic working classes have from mass immigration policies.
Labour is silent on these issues.
If Labour supports Luxon’s “incredible” FTA agreement with India it MUST be upon ‘certain conditions’ being met – ie [Enrolling every single migrant worker coming into NZ automatically and universally into a migrant workers Union to ensure their conditions and pay are the same as for domestic workers]. Are you listening Hipkins et al??? To do anything less is to lose more homegrown NZ workers their jobs causing more homelessness and despair. Don’t even think about not forming this Union!!! Already there is an enormous MESS to clean up after the continuous knee-jerking, badly researched, myriad of ‘so-called’ policies etc. from this CoC that need to be dealt with. It will take lots of money and time. So Left, get this right along with the necessary taxes to fix this CoC’s economic vandalism. WE DON’T WANT or NEED MORE IMMIGRANTS!
