  1. So we have a Covid outbreak but they are now making MIQ stays shorter. After we got Delta via opening up to OZ and as predicted, people are complaining about that too! There doesn’t seem to be much ability for people to take responsibility for their own travel arrangements when they know the borders of any country can close at any time.

MIQ – no problem for the rich, apparently they don’t ‘catch’ Covid and put others at risk, if they can fight in court and prove they lose money. That is the state of bought justice in NZ.

Using fake accounts to get NZ MIQ spots, no problem letting those using them, into NZ!

Not sure if this is the case here, but a lot of children are separated from their parents in NZ (both old and young) because of the ease of accessing free schooling and health care for children in NZ, while working overseas. Likewise with elderly parents, they leave their elderly parents in NZ for free pensions/health care/aged care and work overseas.

In many cases dependant children of non Australian citizens and most other countries even if the parents are working are expected to pay for their own health care and their dependants. Aka when this child got sick, they sent them to their relatives in NZ to recover. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-delta-outbreak-nz-couple-separated-from-toddler-denied-miq-exemption/EZCY77F4FTEH2HMZOIWOS43BCE/

I know of one child whose parents are in China, but left their infant with a their grandparent so the child access all the free kindy and services in NZ. It has now been 2 years, now. Going forward NZ is going
to have a massive strain on the state services of NZ, who are turning into child care and elderly care of absentee family members.

    • savenz – Good facts. I know of this being overseas but using NZ to make up for the social welfare deficiencies where they are. And besides a lot of comfortably off people in NZ don’t guide their children and care for them personally, they send them to boarding school. So there is quite a lot of avoidance of hands-on direct care for children and elderly. Note a huge outrage when a 90 year old dies in a home a month earlier than they would have done perhaps.

      • It’s an important question to consider going forward, because we fail to attract professional skills staying in NZ due to our low wages and poor conditions, but are attracting the children and pensioners of overseas workers who are permanently living in NZ.

NZ pensioners have for the most part paid for their own taxes, but in the past 30 years the folly of allowing any foreign pensioners to partake for nothing in NZ social welfare is stretching services (while the locals now privately pay for Kiwisaver) and the new situation where kids 1 – 20 are living in NZ without their parents looking after them.

Banks seem to understand the problem, because is now very difficult to get a Childs bank account in NZ. Clearly the children accounts are used for various dodgy activities and now banks are reluctant to open kids accounts easily. A long way from 30 years ago when kids were encouraged to bank and save at school!

Personally feel that is one of the worst aspects of neoliberalism, where parents essentially grow up parentless. Whether moving from rural to city, or country to country, it is not good to have countries going after the cheapest worker in this way. Most of the parents think that additional money will bridge that gap, but very little studies about it and the rise of mental illness, individualism and anxiety is alarming.

Once the children are NZ citizens, the parents are leaving to work overseas, but leaving the children in NZ. Often these children have multiple passports and identities, then there is the ease of putting down a name of a NZ citizen on a NZ birth certificate who is actually not a blood relative and has not been adopted and doesn’t even know about it, but only the parents are checked. Can’t wait to see how that plays out with Maori land claims!

  2. For an undergraduate exam, I am going to be ‘writing’ about Maori and the vaccine rollout. I am just after specific examples of the Government working with Maori to rollout the vaccine together.

    • I suggest you read through the comments and articles of the last few days for details you can further research. Itmt, funding has recently been released by govt to Maori groups for this purpose. There are boots on the ground going door to door as we speak

    • No comments are removed that I’ve noticed. Everyone is given a voice here. There are delays lately with sensitive subjects as, I assume, moderators work through the comments

    • Sometimes comments are held over in Open Mic, so as to be seen for the full following day. Sometimes the moderator has to go for a pee, they have their problems too that’s my feeling about it. And I suggest you go to RNZ (radio nz) and look up their search engines on Covid and Maori and see if they will give you anything to your fingertips – you have to strike the right tags sometimes. Also try with your search engine ie google. What about Waatea news here and the specific Maori news sites. The info will be out there.

  3. After jumping in and out of the public service over the past 40 years or so, and then looking at a few LinkedIn profiles of our “movers and shakers”, the corporatised neo-liberal Public Service has truly lost its way.
    Christ on a bike!
While all the failures within the Ministry for Everything, including the cockup(S) with MIQ, and the cruelty many have faced – here they are congratulating themselves on their career development while the people they purport to serve carry on with their shit.
There’s even self-congratulatory shit to do with the ICT sector.

There are a few of them professing to be of ‘leftist’ values, but within this bugger’s muddle that is The Ministry for Everything, and more particularly INZ and MIQ, they probably are completely oblivious to the fact that they come closer to the Peter Dutton School of Fuckups than they do anything else.
More are leaving from this Steven Joyce/Jonathan Coleman vanity project (both famed for so many successes in various areas [ooops….”spaces, going forward”] such as Novapay, holiday pay miscalculations, ICT failures, inconsistencies, in fact most anything they touch that turns to shit) for reasons of career development. Not quite as many though that leave out of frustration from the control freakery and self-aggrandisement of their “wonderful ‘ managers.

A while back, I wondered whether we should start naming some of these wukfits since they purport to be ‘serving us’ (and indeed the various Munsters they’ve captured, by being noice). More fool the lot of them.

It’s loverly these public servants have been
    – “provided a safe place to grow”
    – “opened career doors”
    – “recognised and rewarded us”
    – “developed us as leaders”
    – ‘”inspired us to stretch higher”
    – ‘led by example” [PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!! – OT, NZTA, KREKSHUNS, etc. etc. etc. anyone?]
    – “told us our work mattered” [ IT DOES – unfortunately not in the way you’re moulded to think]
    – “forgave us when we made mistakes”

best I don’t continue, but y’all should check out where some of them have come from sometime and their backgrounds if you don’t have the benefit of 2, 3 or 4 degrees separation from some of them.

Que Sera Sera. But I wouldn’t wanna be in their shoes for much longer

The company is known for three projects in particular: Palantir Gotham, Palantir Metropolis, and Palantir Foundry. Palantir Gotham is used by counter-terrorism analysts at offices in the United States Intelligence Community (USIC) and United States Department of Defense.[6] In the past, Gotham was used by fraud investigators at the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, a former US federal agency which operated from 2009 to 2015. Gotham was also used by cyber analysts at Information Warfare Monitor, a Canadian public-private venture which operated from 2003 to 2012. Palantir Metropolis is used by hedge funds, banks, and financial services firms.[7][8] Palantir Foundry is used by corporate clients such as Morgan Stanley, Merck KGaA, Airbus, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.[9]

Palantir’s original clients were federal agencies of the USIC. It has since expanded its customer base to serve state and local governments, as well as private companies in the financial and healthcare industries.[10]

  5. What the neoliberal 2 tier system is doing, when the poor and criminal are a rising trend (and not doubt the rich and criminal, who are less likely to be caught) are rising too, the rich getting richer and more coming to NZ as multiple citizenships, and the middle class paying all the taxes and doing all the work, getting stretched and undermined.

Remember the government saying how “business and community led” housing was going to be so much better with warm and dry housing, but wait nearly a decade later, it has created people living in cramped quarters in emergency, social housing at triple the costs of normal private and state housing!

Now during the pandemic, we have lawless people who can’t follow any rules, living in close quarters and difficult to manage during the pandemic.

  6. Anything to get criminals and illegal workers the green light in NZ so neoliberalism can keep wages low and profits high! Maybe Joanne Harrison could run the new ‘no questions or checks’ recruitment agency https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/117926188/fraudster-joanne-harrisons-hidden-history-the-life-and-crimes-of-a-milliondollar-conwoman?

    • The media is full of these stories, but when you read the article the couple deliberately send the son back to NZ because he was sick, so it was their own choice to separate from them for convenience it looks like. Covid is closing borders everywhere in all countries all the time, so clearly incorrect to blame the government and MIQ, when the parents made the decisions to send him back to NZ in the first place!

“The family had recently moved to Melbourne when their son got sick and was hospitalised. After he was discharged he travelled back to Auckland with his grandparents to help with his recovery and allow his parents to move into their new home.”

I think NZ should have allowed a year for anybody to come back to NZ when Covid hit, but nearly 2 years in, it is another issue when people are going backwards and forwards after being safe in NZ, and then complaining they can’t get back when it suits them easily.

Same with the lady who was pregnant, she left NZ to reunite with her love interest from overseas, then was angry and took legal action when she couldn’t get back to have the baby in NZ on our free health system.

Then the couple who left their infant in China when Covid broke out with grandparents which seemed to be a way to make sure grandma got into NZ accompanying the child, when they should have been denied entry as Chinese citizens and took up NZ places. Obviously it worked and Grandma got a MIQ place without being a NZ citizen.

People are successfully manipulating MIQ and NZ residency conditions, which is why MIQ is so full up.

Also strange how nobody has to pay upfront for MIQ and it’s subsidised for all these people going backwards and forwards. Then we hear how there is no money to do anything in NZ, and they need to charge people working in NZ more taxes for roads and water, while those coming and going are exempt from user pay fees up front!

      • Yes why aren’t people paying at least a substantial part of the MIQ cost? I have seen some outstanding figures for debt.

The latest way that we have been rorted is where one person was in an MIQ hotel, and apparently got the right to use it because of some family emergency. Have people read about that in Sat’s paper?

Savenz you are coming up with substantial facts, very informative. Please take care of your health – this stuff is hard to face and comprehend.

      • True savenz – people do have to cope with stuff during Covid, can’t always get waivers when wanted. It’s a sneaky virus and somehow it fools us into thinking its not serious.

  8. Seems kinda pointless to have all these climate summits over the past decade for climate change, when this is still happening and 100 companies produce 71% of all emissions. https://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2017/jul/10/100-fossil-fuel-companies-investors-responsible-71-global-emissions-cdp-study-climate-change

“Shell and BP, which together produce more than 1.7bn tonnes of greenhouse gases a year, have not paid any corporation tax on oil and gas production in the North Sea for the last three years, company filings reveal.

The oil giants, which have an annual global footprint of greenhouse gases more than five times bigger than Britain’s, are benefiting from billions of pounds of tax breaks and reliefs for oil and gas production.

Shell and BP paid no corporation tax or production levies on North Sea oil operations between 2018 and 2020, and claimed tax reliefs of nearly £400m, according to annual “payments to governments” reports analysed by the Observer.

Over the same three-year period, they paid shareholders more than £44bn in dividends.”

  9. At least say a prayer for these guys

“The conditions here for Jan 6ers have been inhumane. In fact, some inmates are even begging to be transferred to GUANTANAMO BAY, where even THEY have more acceptable standards.

Class action LAWSUITS are being filed against this prison; and even the ACLU has gotten involved. Senators Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene have since attempted to gain access to this facility and inspect the conditions of the jail, only to be denied. The vile filth of what has become our daily life is being illegally HIDDEN from the members of OUR OWN CONGRESS.”
