Late Stage Capitalism Lockdown: 3 cheers for our underfunded Health System!

Late Stage Capitalism in 3 shots

Nothing says late stage capitalism quite like live news updates from McDonald’s drive throughs after level 4 lockdown.

It’s like ‘I saved myself from the virus, now let me swallow fat laden, salt drenched, sugar overload junk food to shit on my heart as a reward”!

We are a virus on 2 legs with all the grace of diarrhoea on a hot day.

Our poor old underfunded joke of a health system is getting a lot of criticism for not prioritising Pacific & Maori.

This seems unfair.

We knew the DHB’s were incapable of community outreach during the measles epidemic of 2019!!!

In our public health funding the first budget that gets ripped to pieces is the ‘community outreach budget’.

For 3 decades public health has been underfunded so corporate health interests can advance, its community outreach muscles and nerves haven’t been supported for 30 years and now in the middle of a public health pandemic crises we are demanding it run a marathon!

The fact the whole thing hasn’t imploded on day 1 is a miracle.

For all the complaints and screams of racism, the vast, vast, vast, vast, vast majority of Kiwis experiencing their vaccination shot are receiving excellent care, perfect due process and genuine efficiency.

Their experience of vaccination will be at odds with the cacophony of failure headlines, identity politics complaints and social media troll reckons.

  1. I would like a body that protects doctors and nurses from working crazy hours.

I would like to be able to sue a hospital / police for malpractice.

I want doctors and nurses pay to be above average.

I want a 2 billion dollar government pharmaceutical research and production lab.

I want back a national woman’s hospital, national children’s Hospital, national disability hospital, a national MIQ hospital and a National disability hospital. All new builds.

    • In answer to your thoughts above.
      1. There are two bodies that should provid ethat protection.
      Nurses Union and Doctors “”union””

      2. You can do that now.

      3. The Doctors and nurses pay is way above the median which is
NZD$56,160 per annum based on a 40-hour week.

median (average) salary for a Registered Nurse in New Zealand is NZ$75,670 per year
Registrars working for a district health board (DHB) usually earn between $72,000 and $182,000 a year.

  2. Martyn, your opening 2 paragraphs say it all! We are a strange mixed up lot.
I couldn’t agree more about the phenomenal efforts of the front line staff, there should be a medal struck for them all. We need to also acknowledge the huge logisitical effort required to keep some very wobbly wheels on the road.
Will we have learnt anything after this is under control, or will we just wander on into the future trying to quickly re-establish our old normals?

  3. What happened to Anaru Littles $1.8b money he dropped into the Health budget kitty?

What happened to the Labour party promise to fix Housing, Child Poverty Homelessness, Health and Education from 2017?

What happened to ‘Lets Do This!’

Yeah, Right! You can never trust middle-class pakeha faith groups to do shit!

Delta is about to go full-retard and we have a dodgy supply line of covid drugs and nearly burned-out Hospital staff, Dr’s, nurses, Cops and Social Services who are stretched to the limit with very little capacity to stretch that little bit further.

Who can guess what happens next? Another stand-up session by the little princess claiming everything is kapai, be kind and ‘H8’ those Pacific Islanders for spreading covid because hey, racism is always a good escape vehicle for governments in the shit! Oh and you Mowrees don’t bother getting the jab because we’ll use that for our precious little Brucene and Chloe under 12 years old because you don’t want it!

    FFS!

  4. If we really did know that the DHB’s were incapable of community outreach following the measles epidemic of 2019 what have the Labour Party done about it? They’ve had an absolute majority for a year now and I’m pretty sure they were at least nominally in charge in 2019.

They took up $50 Billion last year – it defies belief that with all that cash they couldn’t have done something, anything yet here we are over a year later, looking at a complete and utter failure to deliver anything other than slogans. Looks like most of the money’s gone too.

What a shambles – Labour was gifted a perfect moment to put in place measures to address the shortfalls in our healthcare system and at the same time freedom to borrow huge sums yet they blew it. All of it.

I really don’t think that another government in NZ will ever have a chance like labour had in 2020 to really make change again – they had massive electoral support, a majority and basically a blank cheque.

    What a farce

  5. You can cane the government on their woke and third way politics, but they should get a pat on the back for Covid, because they mostly muddled through Covid correctly.

BUT, probably due to the help they got from the long suffering doctors and nurses and the public who did the right thing for the most part.

I’m just pleased we didn’t have Natz in charge, it would be millions dead including most Maori but they would be secretly pleased as more assets to sell off to their exploitative, non tax paying chums.

Thank our lucky stars they were here. If they stop their woke ways, Labour will still be here next election.

    • There is no difference between the Natz & Labour, and the gweens too.

They all lie. Then they lie again. Capitalism does not work.

    • Save NZ. Of course you are exaggerating in an obscene way to make some sort of point. What labour have found, since they came to power is that it’s hard to Govern in a meaningful way. We were all sick of National (I’m from the right as you know) but the reason any Government stays in power is that they do some stuff right. National was no different, or they would have been voted out after their first term. Labour got re election because they “ muddled through Covid correctly “. The millions dead thing is nonsense and you know it. The doctors nurses pay thing is just the visible and emotional side of our underpaid work force that successive governments from forever, are happy to perpetuate. Labour needed the courage to make change knowing the Covid bill would be big, but like Yeti said, it had a once in a lifetime chance with the borrowed money. to my mind Jacinda’s caution with Covid ( no criticism) has blinded her to the opportunities other politicians would walk over Broken glass for. In some ways, for Us to really understand the benefits of her Covid strategy we would have to suffer it and we won’t. There will always be a large chunk of our population that will see the lockdowns as an inconvenience. Will she survive her Covid outcome if the people can’t buy a home or feed their families. You tell me.

  6. So long as house prices keep increasing the landed gentry will be fine. Capital gains and rents will easily pay for private healthcare, be it in NZ or overseas.

I’m sure they’re touched by your concern, but they’ll be just fine. I wouldn’t want to get sick in NZ, it would be terrible. I really feel for nurses and medical staff.

Unfortunately just as “the spice must flow” so too must house prices increase.. after all ‘it’s what NZers expect’.
