  1. Seems strange that Rio Tinto who stores hazardous waste near a town gets massive corporate welfare from the NZ government and free pass for their offending and this guy gets prosecuted and now reprosecuted under the proceed of crimes act….. seems if you are rich enough to break the law government gives you corporate welfare but if you are a small company you are treated differently.

Note NZ has been giving Rio Tinto cheap electricity to operate in NZ for decades – which keeps electricity prices much higher in NZ for consumers as well as their poor and unchallenged environmental legacy.

  2. Self regulation is the way for big business in NZ, ripping off vulnerable people.

As well as ripping off vulnerable people the retirement industry are then taking the ability for the next generation to get an inheritance large enough to buy them a house and get out of renting. The odds are not stacked in your favour with the retirement industry and governments pandering to it.

“It was up to owner/operators of New Zealand’s dozens of villages to act because the Government had “no immediate plans” to reform the law, she said.

Williams was commenting before the release of a report on submissions on a call for major changes in a whitepaper from the Commission For Financial Capability.

The commission received 3000 submissions when it said many aspects of villages should change to make it fairer for residents and beneficiaries of family estates.

Villages can keep charging weekly fees for months after residents die. They are not forced to repay a family estate or beneficiaries the money paid for a unit or bed once their relative has died. Nor are there any specific time constraints on these two aspects, which comes as a shock to some families, grieving after a relative’s death.”

Sounds dodgy – but hey not enough for the neokindness government to do anything about it!

This means profits up 60% for Rymans!
