There are two things that surprise me when someone responds to Black Lives Matter with, ‘yes, but All Lives Matter’.
The first is that the statement, ‘all lives matter’ is actually a lie.
All Lives DON’T matter, that’s why African Americans are being casually murdered on the streets of America by the Police force.
If ALL lives mattered, African Americans wouldn’t be dying!
The second thing that always surprises me when someone (always a white person) responds to Black Lives Matter with, ‘yes, but All Lives Matter’, is the audacity of it.
It’s like the millisecond white people aren’t the centered narrative of an issue, EVEN IF that issue is the murder of African Americans, they get their feelings triggered like subjective millennial snowflakes.
This shouldn’t be about white people feeling defensive, as global citizens living in democracies we should all feel disgusted and offended by police brutality that ends in the loss of life, particular when that police brutality has a long history of naked racism within the broader socio-political constructs of slavery.
You can say all lives matter WHEN black lives matter. Until that day, constantly saying ‘All Lives Matter’ as a response to ‘Black Lives Matter’ makes you confused at best, or at worst – actively siding with those causing harm.

I see the Seattle utopia is being shut down after multiple shootings including a fatality.
They dropped the victims off at the hospital in the “real world” zone- looks like law and order and medical care in nirvana couldn’t compete with what the grown ups could offer.
Shocked and stunned that the politics of division and offense should fall apart so soon.
The whole situation is so much more complicated than simply saying “BLM” or whatever the latest catch-phrase slogan is to get the masses outraged. In Chicago alone, this last weekend, 14 people were killed and a hundred wounded in shootings. Almost all the victims AND perpetrators were black. Statistics like that beg the question: “do black lives matter… to blacks?”. If so, why are there no organised protests against black gang culture by blacks?

BTW, guns are illegal in Chicago. Who would have thought that criminals don’t care about breaking the law? Large swathes of the US are seemingly hopeless at every level. Prediction: Trump will win 2020.
Nitruim you sound like people who say you commit the crime you do the time and why do so many brown and black people (who are really brown) end up in jail and commit serious crimes and are on the dole and are lazy etc etc etc Shouldn’t we address the problem and work towards the root cause and preventing this instead of pointing the finger and blaming all the time. I see a mayor from the Western Bay area has come out and said why are people joining those gangs in the first place. Well work has already been done on this issue and NZ prisons full of our Maori people are breeding grounds for gang recruitment why doesn’t he know this

I have whanau who were sent to jail for many years for beating up some Mongrol mob when all they were doing was protecting themselves and their home. The court said they used excessive force. The problem with many people writing on this site is you haven’t had to deal with our state system our courts, and police that can be c…s. Some of my whanau and their childrens lives were ruined all because they stuck up for themselves so don’t talk to me about gangs. And also you will find many of those neglecting and beating up on their kids are on that shit drug,the one sir john said he was gonna get rid of, its call ” P ” and its rife in our communities both rich and poor.

Pretty amazing they were allowed to operate illegal roadblocks as an essential service over lockdown wasn’t it. Insanity.

Just as well they don’t riot and burn neighborhoods down in the US everytime a police officer is shot simply doing his duty. Otherwise there would be anarchy nearly every week.

@Nitrium – so you think that cops should be able to carry out summary executions for minor infractions?
Which is what the issue really is here.
If black lives mattered, which they should, then all lives still wouldn’t matter. Here’s a small sample of the other lives that would also have to matter before all lives mattered:
Poor lives.
Kid’s lives.
Homeless’ lives.
Old lives.
Young lives.
Foreigners’ lives.
Chinese muslims’ lives.
Prisonners’ lives.
The lives of those who live in countries with massive poverty and rich natural resources.
etc etc
If the US democrats are successful with the current smear campaign and get in then they will use the same subjective arguments and MSM to declare themselves ‘not racist’ and ‘job done’. They will have won without ever having to float a single progressive policy. Everyone else, include Black Americans, will continue to suffer at the hands of neo liberal economics. Nothing will really change, it will still be a country run for the top 1% of the top 1%. Or to really state what they think:
