WAATEA NEWS COLUMN: Using Māori as a political punching bag for Election 26

Once again we are back at the Waitangi Tribunal with another urgent review into deeply questionable anti-Treaty Government Policy.
This time it is the Treaty Principles Reform Urgent Inquiry as the Government attempts to strip Treaty references out of legislation.
Tukoroirangi Morgan was blunt to the Tribunal as he gave evidence on behalf of Te Whakakitenga o Waikato and the National Iwi Chairs Forum.
He referred to the Government as, “the most racist, anti-Māori government ever to come to power” and accused them of “unrelenting assault” on Māori rights.
The Government claim they have consulted with Iwi on these controversial changes while the National Iwi Chairs Forum counter saying they have asked for meetings which have never happened.
The Government seems to believe them attempting to ram the legislation through amounts as consultation.
The greatest sadness is that this is all completely counter productive and bad faith.
Since coming to power, child poverty rates have gone from 11% to over 14% while the economy has crashed.
Mutilating all legislation that mentions the Treaty won’t build more houses or put more food on the table or lower bills, the Government is rushing this through in order to hold these up as culture war scalps at the election for the reactionary vote.
None of this is to make New Zealand a better place, it’s being done so National, ACT and NZF get to use Māori aspiration as a political punching bag to punch.
There’s no real reason to dump on Māori other than to eclipse the damage they’ve done to the economy and appeal to voters worst angels.
This is dog whistle politics at their most deafening.

not everyday maori, just the scum elites. you know the ones that engage in rent seeking, extortion, grifting and stealing from those they claim to represent.
the gravy train is being derailed and tuku and hus mates are worried about how theyre gunna feather their nests now.
Using our Maori as “punching bags” for election 26 is not only UGLY, it’s totally unacceptable to all true Kiwis. What is Luxon thinking about, apart from himself? He and his cohorts’ RACIST attitude to our indigenous folk is more than disturbing! Is Luxon’s lot comfortable being labelled, “the most racist, anti-Maori government to ever come to power”? And again, more LIES, with Luxon claiming they have consulted with Iwi on these controversial issues! BS! So the Right aren’t happy just keeping our Maori poor, they now want them to starve, and couldn’t give a damn of they die! Such a ‘unchristian’ attitude! And some of you agree with this? Shame on you.
