WHO MAKES “MEN”? With the behaviour of movie magnate, Harvey Weinstein, dominating the headlines, the nature and origins of masculinity have become a hot topic. At issue is whether all expressions of masculinity are to a greater-or-lesser extent “toxic” – or only some? And, whether the ultimate liberation of womankind is contingent upon the unequivocal elimination of the culturally constructed beings we call “men”?
Look, I’m all for putting the boot into the cops about their incredible expansion of surveillance, bugger all oversight to their powers and don’t start me on the poorly resourced Independent Police Conduct Authority, but shanking Mike Bush in the media as a hypocrite for leading an organisation that would now stop someone becoming a Police Officer for drink driving is the most petty of examinations.
Only people, working collectively for the greater good, can achieve mutual support – quite often for no personal benefit or gain.
