Controversial fisheries amendment Bill delayed after Shane Jones request
The Fisheries Minister is delaying controversial legislation that had already seen a major U-turn on one aspect of the Bill.
Shane Jones says the Fisheries Amendment Bill could use some more “panel beating”, and acknowledges there hadn’t been a lot of harmony across Parliament or the industry about it.
He’s suggesting the committee considering the Bill extend its deadline for when it was due to report to Parliament, “and take some time to pluck the fruits of democracy”.
It would delay progressing the legislation until after the election.

The enormity of what he was proposing was insane.
EVERYTHING was for the benefit of the Fishing Industry, so much so, that he was creating a new offence where anyone posting footage off fishing cameras showing commercial fishermen destroying the environment would attract a $50 000 fine!
Matua turned a fishing law into a free speech issue!
There were enormous issues with this horrific law and it highlighted once again how the Right strangle the common good for their donors interests, but the reality of the situation as it stands now is that Matua has simply slipped this past the election meaning if NZF get back I, this will absolutely be passed in the interests of the fishing industry.
If you vote National, you are voting for NZ First to screw recreational fishing over for Fishing Industry.
Do not doubt for one second Matua Shane’s total capitulation to his donors interests.
This pile of puss is being put on the back burner because Luxon knows his boat owning mates will throw him over the side of the boat come october .If he is reelected it will become law over night under urgency before xmas .
Could Matt Wilson be more politically active and come out to defend the whole marine environment and this regimes polices that are hurting more than recreational fishing interests and directly harm the environment they say they care about ?
