Yep reading real stories about people getting on in the real world is seen as scary, but disney eyelashes. barbie and JonBenet Ramsay are OK. I like Cynthia Voigt’s Homecoming Tillerman series. The oldest 11, then 10, 7, 4, decide to walk to a relation hundred kms away rather than be split up by Welfare. They surmount problems together OK. Now that’s all right for 11 up – what do they get – ninja, pretty princesses!
