Mike Smith takes fight to the UN

Iwi leader Mike Smith asks UN to intervene before government introduces new climate law
Climate activist and iwi leader Mike Smith has requested the United Nations “intervene urgently” before legislation is introduced preventing companies from being sued over damage caused by greenhouse gas emissions.
Smith, along with the National Iwi Chairs Forum Pou Tikanga, Climate Clinic Aotearoa and Lawyers for Climate Action have jointly filed a complaint to the UN Special Rapporteur on Climate Change and Human Rights.
It comes after RNZ reported Smith accused the government of a “co-ordinated campaign of secret lobbying” following the court ordered release of previously undisclosed documents. At the time, the prime minister indicated he only became aware of the document through the media.
Christopher Luxon has since announced an investigation by the Department of Internal Affairs and the Ombudsman has a investigation underway.
The complaint – which RNZ has seen – raised “serious concerns about procedural defects and substantive inconsistencies with the rule of law, the separation of powers, and New Zealand’s binding international human rights obligations”.
They said that included the right of access to a court, minority rights under Article 27 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the climate due diligence obligations articulated by the International Court of Justice.

Smith v Fonterra was already the climate case that terrified New Zealand’s biggest polluters. Now the private-email stink makes it worse: the people pumping the pollution were apparently whispering in the Government’s ear while the rest of us were told there was nothing to see here.
We now know there was an active campaign to hide what the 7 Big Polluters wanted and how they were secretly advising the Government on how to avoid Mike Smith’s legal challenge.
We also know the person involved was a former NZ Initiative Researcher, the NZ Initiative is the right wing think tank that works with Atlas Network and three of the seven big polluters are connected to the NZ Initiative…

…so you have a secret pollution agenda and right wing think tanks colluding to hide their influence and yet Kiwis still prefer to side with these arseholes.
Could you imagine if it was the Left who was doing this?
Could you imagine what the Taxpayers’ Union would be screaming?
New Zealand’s Right spends enormous energy raging about trans people, beneficiaries and “wokeness” — while quietly cheering on the corporations, landlords and donors making their lives materially worse.
Here’s what I don’t understand about the feral NZ Right.
We get that you right-wing hate trolls hate da trans, hate da Treaty and hate da beneficiaries.
We get you want to hang Jacinda for putting nano-bots in your vaccines and that due to your intense loneliness you blame anyone weaker than you for their own misery.
It’s a toxic culture war feedback loop.
Here’s what I don’t get though.
If you hate the Woke Left, why y’all such simps for Corporations actively polluting the environment and secretly implementing their own interests?
Why are you all on your knees for the wealthiest?
National, ACT and NZ First are nothing more than vehicles for their donors’ interests.
The elites manipulate your petty bigotries so you keep voting against your own economic interests.
Why are you such simps for rich people? They manipulate your ignorance for their interests!
