MEDIAWATCH: Heather Du Plessis-Allan interview with Luxon reeked of desperation, delusion and an inability to read the room

It was a coup of an interview.

After the shocking poll umbers, Luxon went into hiding on Friday to avoid media after appearing at a Simeon Brown breakfast event.

Hilariously only Luxon cared what Simeon had to say because everyone else in this photo wanted to talk about National at 28%…

 

…dropping out of sight after this fed rumours that there was a meltdown going on behind the scenes.

There was.

Luxon had been asked by his colleagues to take the weekend to consider his position. His ridiculous desire to immediately tell us via Heather’s show that he was staying reeked of desperation, delusion and an inability to read the room.

The room is clearly telling him to go, he isn’t taking the hint.

This close to the election, National can not risk a messy leadership fight, but they will accept a leader falling on his sword, unfortunately for them he has already tripped over his tongue and planted his foot in his mouth so adding a sword into that mix seems optimistic.

Here’s the problem for National, Trump’s insane war will generate an inflation spike that will crush whatever green shoots exist and the economy will go into a steep decline just when National need it to buck up.

Now National have broken the psychological 20s, other voters will start to peel off. National voting Blue/Greens who are horrified by the race war baiting of Seymour and the Culture War grievances of Winston are an anathema to those voters and they will find home with TOP whose momentum can clearly take them over 5%.

National will continue to haemorrhage vote until June and that is when the coup against Luxon will finally happen as blind panic sets in.

His interview with Heather betrayed his self-belief as Trumpian in its level of delusion. He honestly seems to believe the economy is going well and that the media are being too mean towards him for not appreciating that carpet bombing cities might be a war crime.
