What if Winston Peters had used his meeting with Marco Rubio to tell America the truth? As Trump threatened to wipe out Iranian civilisation, New Zealand had a rare chance to sound like an independent country instead of a nervous satellite.

Imagine if, instead of grovelling to the Yanks, Winston had admonished them and called on them to live up to the values they once claimed to represent.

Violence is no way forward. Diplomacy is where we settle our issues with one another. The rules-based order is the only way forward.
What is the most important thing?

What a real New Zealand voice could have sounded like
Winston would have been the last world leader America met before Trump called the strike off.
Winston could have been celebrated as a global statesman whose words echoed far beyond New Zealand.
What did we get instead? The quisling words of a cowardly goon.
What a wasted opportunity for New Zealand to shine on the global stage.
If he had been that silly then all the exporters sending stuff to America would be looking for new markets and those working for them new jobs. Righteousness is great when you have nothing to lose.
