  1. So, Duterte is going to close down Rappler, the “Independent’ on line News Website? Except closer examination shows its not very independent at all.Rappler is partly owned by North Base Media.Marcus Brauchli, one of its chief executives, was an executive director of the Washington Post [you know, the one with a 10 % shareholding from the CIA.], and Managing Editor of the Wall street Journal.Sasa Vucinic, another chief executive is associated with George Soros .The Rappler Chief Executive Editor Maria Ressa was formerly employed by CNN. And we have a New York Times Editorial very much concerned with the fate of the Rappler. When you join the dots you get led to the Media of the U.S. Deep State / George Soros ! When a country like the Phillipines upsets the U.S. Empire, you get NGO’s /Newsmedia of the Empire propagandizing and causing mischief. Like they did in the Ukraine. Fortunately in this case you have the Chief Investigative Historian of the Daily Blog[Unofficial] to bring you the Real Story!!!

    1. Not sure why you’ve selectively focused on George Soros, aside from the fact that he is the favorite whipping boy of the alt-right and Republicans. The fact is that wealthy backers for both the Democrats and Republicans exist, such as the union-busting, climate-change-denying Koch Bros.

  2. Philippines has been under US occupation for far too long.

To make out that major unrest and corruption has nothing to do with the US is outright stupidity.

Manipulating news is a US mainstay of control.

Not all the people are fooled.

  3. I would not be surprised if Duterte will some time soon fall on his own sword, that is be assassinated by somebody.

The man is a real danger, and it is distressing to hear and read, that he still has a lot of following in the Philippines.

But so did other ‘strong men’ in other places throughout history, leaving a track of blood, disaster and misery behind themselves.

Those journalists and their supporters to stand up against the threats and misinformation, they deserve extra respect and honours, it is not a safe place the Philippines, same as some other countries.
