I don’t have a TV that broadcasts any channels.
I use the TV to play RNZ online.
Yes i watch material that you wouldn’t watch… I watch what can be classed as “termination of life videos” each night.
Apart from that i watch political interviews from various sites like Democracy Now, The Intercept etc etc and read blogs from this site and watch doco’s online.
The last series i watched was one called Horace and Pete created by Louie CK and was only available online.
It was a comedy/tragedy that didn’t really produce a laugh but was very compelling.
The only other shows i watch are South Park and Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
I don’t watch reality TV shows because lets be honest they don’t portray any “reality” close to the definition of the word.
If you liked “Angela” that’s your thing.
I enjoy the feeling of suspension of disbelief but it certainly doesn’t reach to reality TV.
Nor does it reach to Thugby, Bones CSI Game of thrones etc etc.
I am proud that i am more interested in reading a psyc report or a horror novel by Thomas Logotti or HP Lovecraft or listening to Leonard Cohen (definitely Sat Night’s with Phil O’Brien) than even thinking about what some odd balls in Auckland are doing.
But if there is a chance you want to review the highlights of the show with a cynical overtone, then i am always interested. 🙂
Brilliant interview with Henry Rollings ! ! ! ! !
Only disappointed his show does not come to Chch
i have done a review of real housewives of auckland – and i deem it to be must-watch television – for one reason only..
..that is because the show has discovered the ‘new’ david brent’ –
..her name is angela..and she is comedy-gold…goes instantly into the canon..
..’lethargic’ takes on a whole new meaning/comedy-trigger…(it has for me..)

I just can’t comprehend the idea that someone is actually watching this kind of show.
I can understand that it is bad and it is trashy and there is a “guilty pleasure” in watching this kind of thing.
But i think that the people who do watch it, even at that level, need to evaluate their now very sad lives.
It’s kind of like advocating for really poor children to fight each other for a pile of candy.
Sure it makes you feel a little uncomfortable watching…but hey it is not “our kids” and they are getting something they want at the end.
No one gets “hurt” and how many times do you get to see it anyway
it’s more nuanced than that – trash-television…between what is good and what is just utter crap..
..the human condition is ghastly – inhabited by gargoyles and freaks and ghastly people..that much we can all accept..
..and we have a natural curiousity to peek at ‘other’ examples of this..
..and i watched it for reviewing purposes..expecting to be able to rip it to shreds..
..but then along came angela…
..and i was totally smitten..(and ‘guilty pleasure’ free..)
..and no doubt spoon…you watch things that i wd rather drive hot needles into eye than watch.eh..?
..and if you watch anything involving people chasing round/oval balls..any doctor/lawyer/forensic-crap…
..that is guaranteed..
..there is no right or wrong – no need for any snobbery..
..(we can look to angela for that..eh..?..)
