Total Mobility subsidy cut leaves Bay of Plenty users fearing isolation
People who rely on subsidised transport to get around will soon have to pay more for every trip.
One user is worried the change will threaten the independence she has fought to regain through the scheme.
The Total Mobility Scheme is a government-subsidised discounted taxi and specialist transport service for people whose disabilities or health conditions prevent them from using public transport.
From July 1, the Government is reducing the nationwide subsidy from 75% to 65%, which it says will ensure the scheme remains financially sustainable.

The Government’s move to override a Supreme Court ruling protecting disability carers is one of the ugliest examples yet of this coalition’s austerity politics.

Government to overturn court decision recognising family carers as employees
The Disability Minister has revealed a bill that would reverse a recent Supreme Court decision to recognise some family carers as employees.
In a statement released late on Monday, Louise Upston announced the introduction of a law that would give Disability Support Services (DSS) a legal basis.
DSS sits within the Ministry for Social Development and is responsible for funding the care of about 55,000 disabled people each year.

Caring for disabled family members is already a full-time job

I think that when it comes to the disabled in our society, there but for the grace of God go I.
I find it hard enough to get around the world as an able bodied person, I simply could not imagine life with a disability and I believe a decent society does everything in its power to look after the disabled and give them agency.
The disabled have received a terrible time of it under this Government.
National have rolled back anything they can cut to the point of pushing through new laws exempting them from treating family care members as workers.
Caring for a seriously disabled family member is a full time job and is emotionally heavy.
This is about political priorities, not scarce money

We have $14 billion for tax cuts, $3 billion for landlord tax loop holes, $300 million for tobacco subsidies and $200 million for gas and oil subsidies so I won’t tolerate right wing goons crying that we don’t have the money to be decent to the disabled.
This is a case of choosing the weakest members of society and robbing them because they can’t fight back.
Well I did warn voters ,before the last election ,what these cunts would do .That being the case I am still shocked how fucken hate filled the women ministers are .There is not one female minister with a shred of compassion for voters other than the very wealthy .
NAct types see the disabled as ripples and retards. Their view is if a person doesnt become a forex dealer or investor thats their own fault and deserve to live under a bridge and not be seen in the street.
