  1. Lol, whats wrong with your exquisite $200 teaspoon sized meal in the middle of your 12in plate?

  2. Beats me why anybody thinks it’s worth buying the Herald. All they write about are non-stories like this Michelin garbage, thinking it makes them sound worldly and sophisticated.
All mainstream media has fallen for the same celebrity-ised, filler stories that mean nothing to 99% of the population.
I think they’ve been taking lessons from the prime minister. The Driveller-in-Chief.

  3. The hospitality and services sectors in this country are in a sustained contraction despite the “importance” of these stars. Shows how detached from reality the media in this country is.

Considering the decline of this country, got the media keeping up appearances with this desperate propaganda in an election year.

Unsurprising how recent surveys show low trust in news media and people actively avoiding it.

  4. I know you’re focusing on those that eat at these places and the money they spend and this upsets your socialist view.
For me having worked in this industry I focus on the wages for dish hands, kitchen staff, front of house, waiting staff, maintenance peeps as well as suppliers of food and the delivery drivers all of whom are paid because of meals bought.
These people are working class mate and many with out tertiary education. They need those wages in what is a very tough and uncertain Industry to make a living from.
From what you’re saying you’d like these places to close, put staff on the dole and then visit food banks instead of working for a living and growing as a person and taking pride in their skills.
I don’t get this negativity from you as this 6.5 million is a cheap investment across three years that’s promotes an industry that brings joy to those who dine out and especially those who work for their living and take pride in what they do. What the hell is wrong with that?

    1. The article clearly makes the distinction between constant news about the Michelin stars compared to the lack of coverage about poverty and those depending on food banks to survive. You are taking a negative view and deciding that this somehow diminishes the hard work required to have a successful restaurant which is not the point of the article.

  5. Wankers will vote for wankers so hopefully enough wanker voters have ceased wanking and the wankers that are still wanking have decreased enough to see this orrible coalition of wanks finally wank off in November.

  6. The media ‘carry-on’ about the Michelin Stars is sickening when so many in NZ are literally starving and this rabid CoC is cutting every low income policy in order to keep bribing their wealthy doners who seriously lack any sence of morality. We are in the midst of a crisis you fools! What a staggering waste of $6.3 that could have done so much more for our country and its suffering people! Luxon is nothing short of a “quick-fix” manipulator and will be remembered for this dumb-assed action along with his fixation on his LNG “con”. He and his enablers are absolutely without a heart or soul! He’s is beyond hope, can’t improve as a PM, and is almost at rock bottom [although he won’t be able to see that!] – keep bringing it on – nearly there!

  7. Michelin? Ugh! If you want good food in NZ, go to a small family-run Asian restaurant.
