Kahu Carter Officially Launches Christchurch Central Campaign, Pledging Fearless Advocacy For Ōtautahi

Kahu Carter officially launched her campaign to win Christchurch Central on Sunday afternoon at the heart of the electorate, the Arts Centre. Joined by local elected members, community advocates and the Green Party Co-Leaders, Kahu spoke to supporters and members of the community about her vision for Christchurch Central.

With a dedication to continuing her work and steadfast community advocacy for the people of Christchurch Central, Kahu is asking for both the Green Party Vote and the electorate vote. Alongside her volunteers, they have been talking to voters across the electorate and hearing about the cost-of-living pressures, the rising cost of rent, and the need for progressive change in representation.

Carter says, “In the absence of leadership, Ōtautahi locals banded together to rebuild our city into the dynamic and exciting place it is today. We can have political representation that matches the community spirit. A strong voice in Parliament and the electorate to make sure that our local issues are being heard and solved in Parliament is important.”

Kahu is aiming to be the first Green Party electorate MP in Christchurch Central, after the success of the Green Party electorate campaigns in 2023 and 2020. Entering Parliament in 2023, Kahu has been an effective Opposition MP, tirelessly advocating for people and planet.

Carter adds, “I love Christchurch. As a māma, this is where I’ve chosen to raise my kids. I want to represent this amazing community and fight for a future for everyone in the heart of this amazing city. I am delighted to be standing as an advocate for local issues for the residents of Christchurch Central this November 7th. I want our city to have warm housing, families to have kai on their tables, and our Papatūānuku to be protected.

Kahu Carter entered parliament in 2023, placing 14th on the Green Party list.

In 2023, Kahu stood in the Christchurch Central electorate, successfully increasing the Green Party vote from 12.69% in 2020 to 19.43% in 2023.
