Property developer Matthew Horncastle fires up after complaint over political billboard
Outspoken property developer Matthew Horncastle has taken aim at the Advertising Standards Authority after a complaint about a political billboard.
The ASA received the complaint from a member of the public about a digital message that was approved by Horncastle and displayed on a billboard owned by the Christchurch-based developer.
Horncastle’s billboard located in the city’s Moorhouse Ave reads: “2026 Election. The New Zealand government takes HALF the money you make if you work really hard. Labour, Greens and Te Pāti Māori want the other half as well. Approved by Matthew Horncastle”.
An email from the ASA’s Complaints and Education Manager to Horncastle does not include the nature of the complaint or reveal the complainant.
“At this stage, no view has been formed, and the chair has not made any ruling. We are currently gathering further information to assist the chair in determining whether the complaint should proceed,” says the ASA.
