Cheap racism + brutal economics – Luxon brings poppadoms for butter chicken tsunami while promising more austerity

So National feel so much pressure from NZFirst’s racism that they are going to jump on the dog whistle bandwagon as well…
PM promising solution to immigration problem that doesn’t exist, demographer says
A demographer believes the prime minister is promising a solution to an immigration problem that does not exist.
Meanwhile, the Aged Care Association CEO says their aged care workforce is “exceptionally reliant” on skilled migrants.
Christopher Luxon has told business leaders immigration was an emerging political issue and to expect “careful” immigration policy from National – and that the party would put social cohesion ahead of businesses’ profits.
Independent think tank Koi Tū senior fellow and distinguished professor emeritus Paul Spoonley said while immigration had become a polarising globally, that was not necessarily the case in New Zealand.
He said immigration had risen a bit as an issue, but it was not a top 10 concern for New Zealanders – as identified in the latest Ipsos issues monitor. He said polling showed the majority of New Zealanders viewed immigration positively.
RNZ
…how pathetic and gutless. So Luxon is promising to bring the poppadoms for Winston’s butter chicken tsunami is he?
Charming.
It’s not the migrant workers we invite here who are to blame for our lack of infrastructure planning!!!
Scapegoating the other for our failure to tax the rich for the infrastructure we need is sick.
Blaming immigrants as we pursue a user pays education system that forces domestic graduates off shore highlights how captured we are by neoliberal mythology instead of fully funded public services.
Which brings me to the next promise, instead of raising taxes on the rich, Luxon is actually promising austerity, not for the debt of course, the Debt continues to climb…

…but austerity for our already hollowed our public service budgets…
No room for sugar hits in the Budget – Government cuts its spending allowance
Selling an election year Budget with no sweets is no easy feat, especially when the country is tired, a bit over it and looking for anyone to just give them a sign of better things to come.
But Christopher Luxon is unapologetic about sticking to the Government’s strategy of fiscal restraint, making the case that economic security is national security – and that it is essential for bolstering our defences as a once stable, predictable world order comes under strain.
Stuff
National will continue to borrow for their rich mate tax cuts and tobacco, gas and oil subsidies WHILE hollowing out public service budgets.
Austerity for us, corporate welfare for their donors.

New Zealands main problem is that as just one of 7 countries in the world that allows non-citizens to vote, it’s future prospects, national security, and long term aims are stymied by permanent residents wanting to maintain the status quo to ensure they get their citizenship to allow them to escape via the back door to Australia
with over 50% of “nz citizens” moving to Australia last year being newly conferred citizens, the question in NZ actually needs to be “should only citizens, and those PRs living here since 1976 (when the commonwealth fell) be the only people allowed to vote”
As a green voter, I’ve never sat comfortably in that party due to my absolute antipathy toward allowing non-citizens to vote for central govt.
Im fine with permanent residents voting for local government, but central govt? No way.
Another poll Another ticket for the Coalition . It is a shame NZF are attracting more votes but it is the way of the World..Reform in UK,One Nation Australia but with National still in charge it keeps Labour and Greens from power which sits well with me
Does Spoonley want struggling NZers to babysit foreigners into a comfortable middle class life over here, while the government is giving our people a good kicking? Must be fucking joking
