Te Pāti Māori accuses government, media of ‘constant attack’ on Treaty of Waitangi

Te Pāti Māori co-leader Rawiri Waititi has accused the media of “relentlessly attacking” the party and Māori providers in a blistering speech at Parliament.

Rawiri is 100% right about the double standards towards the Māori Party…

My speech today is directed at the fourth estate, the media and the governments constant attack on Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
There have been 14 inquiries in the last 18 months into Māori organisations and Te Pāti Māori, and not a single allegation was upheld.
Political parties and the media relentlessly attacked Te Pāti Māori and Māori providers in the public domain regarding these allegations over the last 18 months. Yet since the news that these allegations have been found false, have come to light, other than Waatea News no one has condemned the allegations to date.
No headlines from the media, proving they will be deafening in our condemnation, and silent in our innocence.
We are not afraid of scrutiny. We welcome truth. But what we reject completely is the colonial gaze that turns Māori excellence into suspicion and Māori success into scandal.
…he’s right!
I make this point in my most recent Waatea column.

TDB was very clear at the start of these Manurewa Marae allegations that they were a racist double standards to distract from the real corruption at the top table of this Government!

We argued that Luxon weaponised the public service against Māori Party to create a brown-screen while criticism was attacking his corrupt Fast Track Powers.

This was always about throwing mud at the Māori Party to distract from what was going on with the Fast Track powers. Luxon breathlessly demanded an inquiry after Andrea Vance staked her reputation on smears coming from a disgruntled Destiny Church faction wanting to attack JT and the Manurewa Marae.

After all this inquiries they haven’t found any evidence of the alleged  wrong doing.

This attempt to smear and attack is made worse when you consider why it happened at all.

Māori Community Organisations have the flax root outreach that many Government Agencies do not because:

A) Those Government Agencies have slashed on community outreach.

B) They have no credibility with those communities.

C) They are so desperate to gain any access they bombard those Māori Community groups who ufo have that outreach and credibility with massive demands that they themselves aren’t setting guidance on and then blame those Māori Community Groups when accusations fly!

Despite the successes of outreach, the smear of corruption is still made and when each of the investigations clear te Parti Māori, there is never the same level of media attention clearing their name as there was when chapter assassinating them.

Rawiri is right. There are double standards.

  1. Since pakeha arrival to Nu Tirini there have always been double standards even when Pakeha were the minority. Pakeha hubris and self-entitlement even had the cheek to call Maori who didn’t want to sell pakeha their land “Privileged” Maori just need to keep expressing themselves and fuck what pakeha want and the Haka in Parliament by Orini Kaipara whanau is part of that resistance against European exceptionalism

    • Pakeha came, they saw, they conquered. It has happened many times in many countries.
History is rewriten everyday and the top dog today is not tomorrow.

      • ‘Pakeha came, they saw, they conquered. ‘
No they went not then pakeha – they were ‘Te Iwi Wikitoria’ – Victoria’s people – the British.
        Pakeha were made in Aotearoa.
Hence the reason the sun never set on the British Empire.
Nobody trusts the poms in the dark.

      • Fuck off Trevor pakeha (Wikitoria) were cunning they use soft power (religion, missionaries, treaties, diseases, bribery etc..) they didn’t just park up on our shores and started attacking learn a bit before making dumb comments

      • Wow Trevor this conquer as you call it, was in very recent times. So because you conquer it is okay to make the indigenous people second class citizens?

  2. For those who still can’t see it, try really hard to open your eyes and brains and you will see that Racism is alive and doing well in our lovely NZ. The never-ending hypocricy and continuous putting down of our indigenous people, who have already been so horribly ripped off, is appalling and doesn’t say much for those instigating the attacks. So all the smug settlers, immigrants and ‘whatevers’ out there, just pull your heads in – “white isn’t always right”- in fact because of the extreme prejudice it is mostly wrong, grasping and unnecessarily spiteful. So cut the relentless attacks and spurious accusations and try harder to be fair and humane.

  3. The Maori party of old did their people a great disservice, they broke away from the Labour Party and then conformed to John key so nothing really changed. Whether the white privileged pakeha who are faux outraged and Gerry Brownlee who is king Canute fighting the tide their time has come . They have sat in parliament denigrated by their so called peers, they have watched their language, culture and their people verbally assaulted by people who should know better, they have heard an immigrant ACT MP want to send them to jail they are watched by the press and every misdemeanor published under the microscope. The surprising thing is that the party are not more militant after all these assaults on their mana . Get used to it change is coming there are young Maori in the wings watching and waiting for their chance and any government in Aotearoa ignores them at their own peril.

  4. Of course, Rawiri is right as the mainstream media were giving Kaipara a hard time about her lack of policy knowledge yet why didn’t do this to those clowns in the Act and NZF parties. And some of NZ first who are Ministers and have no fucken idea, Costello comes to mind and the gun lady Mc Kee as well as the Chour whose only experience was her being abused, whippy do, not exactly gleaming qualifications or experience to have the portfolio.
Now I don’t always agree with everything Te Pati Maori say or do but I do believe multiculturalism is used against our people as a weapon to divide and conquer not only us but our Pakeha whanau and this I believe is where Ferris was coming from when he made those comments that offended some people.

  5. As soon as we can get to a place where your race, sex, gender and religion is irrelevant, the better society will be.

  6. In your case Trevor because your white racisms goes only one way. You are white and born into white privilege you are of the ilk that believe we all have the same opportunities when we all know that is a load of bullshit unless you have walked in someone else’s shoes you do not know what it is like.
