GUEST BLOG: Dave Brownz – Why Aotearoa must stay out of the US war with China

Aotearoa should not be a pawn in the US plan to wage war against China.

Ben Morgan’s ‘simple’ explanation of military developments in the Asia Pacific reads like a US state department briefing on the region. The ‘developments’ he speaks of are all in the US preparations for war with China over Taiwan.  See his latest Pacific Update.

Unstated is the assumption that the US as hegemonic power has the right to prepare for war against China over Taiwan which it officially recognises as part of China!

Any war against China over Taiwan is a war against China itself.

The monumental arrogance of this also has a simple explanation.

The US has long assumed the unilateral right to invade and occupy a country when it is in interests to do so.

Afghanistan and Iraq come to mind, both on spurious pretexts of threats to US security.

But the coming war with China is something special, a bit like Netanyahu’s genocide in Palestine.

It is that the US as hegemon is in decline and is being overtaken by China as the rising powerhouse of the world economy.

The US cannot tolerate being overtaken economically by an upstart Asian nation that has been able to rebuff US attempts to re-colonise when it returned to the global capitalist market  around the  millennium.

To add insult to injury China has developed into an emerging imperialist power that is now leading the BRICs bloc as the rival to the US imperialist bloc.

This has flipped the balance of global power from the US towards the China led bloc.

This is the simple explanation for why the US is driving us to war against China.

War is an extension of politics, which in turn is an extension of economics.

So to reverse its economic decline relative to the China-Russia Bloc, the US has to turn this into an existential threat to its national security.

This is so irrational and stupid, not to mention as obvious war crime against China, exceeding even Gaza, it is laughable but for the fact it will drag the whole Asia Pacific into the maelstrom of World War 3.

China will not back down and defend Taiwan as part of its sovereign territory.

The US cannot win as China has the military advantage of defending its own territory, and has military superiority including the latest drone technology. Once opened this pandora’s box cannot be closed short of Armageddon.

Aotearoa must stay out of this irrational drive to war which makes it an expendable military target along with many other Indo-Pacific nations.

It must reject the Coalition Government push to reinsert Aotearoa into US defence strategy.

To do this it must join forces with other South Pacific nations for a Nuclear Free Pacific, as an independent bloc against Australia and other US allies bent on turning the Pacific into a nuclear wasteland.

For a full picture of what is behind US warmongering in the Asia Pacific have a look at Brian Berletic’s latest video on the subject. Berletic is a specialist in refuting the US propaganda and military weapons and tactics by quoting Western official sources and corporate media.

  1. Not gonna happen, categorically not gonna happen. We are in lockstep with the US on this one. Just like the US-driven Ukraine-Russia war has stuffed up European economies, then so too, will the US-driven China-Taiwan conflict do the same for the rest of the world’s economies.

Remember, the USA, namely their military-intel-media complex – wins – when wars drag on, not when they win wars. The USA is not in the business of winning wars because that, is bad for business.

  2. Fuck it, I don’t care. Taiwan has a right to independence, it’s not as if it’s seceded to preserve slavery or anything. It’s about time we all recognise that China is just as much an imperial power as the US. I just hope we can play the and the Chinese off against each other and avoid being trampled when the elephants fight. Which I don’t think will happen but I didn’t think Russia would invade Ukraine either.

    • Damn right. Taiwan is a free country with a lively democracy. If the shoe was on the other foot and New Zealand was under threat of invasion, and our democratic allies were all “oh sorry, can’t help, don’t want to support US imperialism,” we’d be rightly pissed.

      • Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, is a part of China. US imperialism banks on the fact (and rightly so we can see) that the general public believes Taiwan to be separate to China, even though it is not – and US foreign policy knows this to boot!

This is just another US created potential conflict that suits only their war-intel-media machine + economy and no one else. Lets hope that the Taiwanese are used to batter China in the same manner that Ukraine is being used against Russia.

The problem here is not China – nowhere in their thousands of years of history have they acted like imperialists. The problem here is the same problem everywhere throughout the world – the USA!

            • I think Castro makes a lot of sense. It makes zero sense to you because you are obviously not aware of China’s imperialist invasion of Vietnam. After US imperialism’s humiliating defeat in Vietnam. After getting the green light from the Nixon administration, the Chinese imperialists thought they would have a go. Fortunately for the world, the Chinese imperialists were also handed their arse on plate in Vietnam.

              From Wikipedia
              (for your education)

In February 1979, Chinese forces launched a surprise invasion of northern Vietnam and quickly captured several cities near the border. On 6 March of that year…..

            • This snippet sits above your Wikipedia snippet – “China launched an offensive in response to Vietnam’s invasion and occupation of Cambodia in 1978, which ended the rule of the Chinese-backed Khmer Rouge”

Point being, you’re drawing an incredibly long bow in thinking this is imperialism, but, a little bit of cherry-picking can maybe, maybe give that impression.

Here’s the whole story, as told by Washington mouthpiece, Wikipedia.

  3. The best outcome is when the great powers recognize the cost of conflict exceeds the benefits. Little countries like NZ prefer to trade with both powers, and many smaller countries with less ruinous ambitions.

  4. It is most unlikely that Te Whakaminenga o Aotearoa would become involved in a war between the Peoples Republic of China and the United States of America. On the other hand the colonialist Realm of New Zealand, which has a longstanding record of amoral stupidity, might will do so.
