Leslie Bravery is a Londoner with vivid World War Two memories of the Nazi blitz on his home town. In 1947/1948 His father explained to him what was happening to the Palestinians thus: “Any ideology or political movement that creates refugees in the process of realising its ambitions must be inhuman and should be opposed and condemned as unacceptable.” What followed confirmed this assessment of the Zionist entity a hundredfold. Now a retired flamenco guitarist, with a lifelong interest in the tragedy of what happened to the Palestinian people, he tries to publicise their plight. Because the daily injustices they suffer barely get a mention in the mainstream news media, Leslie edits/compiles a daily newsletter, In Occupied Palestine, for the Palestine Human Rights Campaign. These days, to preserve his sanity, he enjoys taking part in a drama group whenever possible!

  1. Oh I am not up with the popular crowd so I must ‘Yawn’ as well.
It would be terrible to have an individual thought – it is so confusing going beyond the mass knee-jerk approach. Being Gaby is never having to say you are sorry eh! The Jews have been scapegoats and objects for the deposit of rancour and worse for centuries. Why? And why should they be the bearers of all rejected dark human thoughts as if they are suffering Jesus all over again. Let’s take it on to ourselves, offer ourselves instead to have rocks etc. thrown at us till we die. Oh wait I think that does happen in some parts of the world to unhappy transgressors against The Right Way.

    The Right Way.

    • Well you can’t blame them for refusing to be dhimmi any longer Grey. You would too had you suffered the ritual humiliation, onerous taxation and Arab pogroms which were part of the territory associated with that despised status. But maybe you think dhimmihood was The Right Way.

      • You are I am sure better informed than me. However reciting the past and grievances doesn’t make them disappear and doesn’t help towards making moves to settle present trials and tribulations which are growing. Does that concern you or do you just hand over your list to everyone who comments unfavourably on present sorrows?

        • Oh I’m not better informed Grey, I’m just a pessimist. One who doesn’t share your cheery belief in the benevolence of human nature. I look to the move to settle the trials and tribulations prevalent in 1948 India and am not greatly heartened. That didn’t turn out so well for the indigenous now did it? Why should we expect any different outcome between Israel and ‘Palestine’?

  2. As soon as Israel accepts the truth of its existence as a tragic racist, imperialist-sponsored settler colonial mistake, the path to peace becomes clear. Like for all post-colonial societies.

It won’t do that by itself. We have to make it accept that fact, like we did for South Africa. Then we can help.

    • Paul – though the blacks in South Africa went through trauma – Soweto, Steve Biko for example, they don’t compare to the last Jewish encounter with evil, which is high on the list of cruelty and amorality. So you treating it as just like an eyesore that should be tidied and removed from the landscape is an error. But Jewish people won’t feel good if they wipe out another tribe of people like the Palestinians even though they have been devastated themselves. They need to extend goodness and replace their negativity; keep trying but being firm to stick to a commitment and not react to every incitement with arms nit strong words. They can apply a torniquet to Palestine for a day or so to show displeasure, if the infractions aren’t stopped by Palestinians. Otherwise it will continue tit for tat and so it goes…

      • What splendid optimism Grey. How do you suggest we resolve the Kashmir conflict? Or stop Erdogan bombing the Kurds to smithereens as the word’s attention focuses on Ukraine and Israel? Or Azerbaijain’s illegal blocking of and ethnic cleansing of the remaining Armenian-controlled areas of he Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) region? Or are these present sorrows on which we should not comment unfavourably because they are instigated by the same Islamists currently attempting to annihilate Israel?
