The current secrecy between NZF, ACT and National highlights how poorly served we have been by the media this election

Winston Peters refuses to answer 27 questions in media scrum

NZ First leader Winston Peters refused to answer 27 consecutive questions from the media when he arrived in Wellington today for presumed coalition talks.

Watching Winston contemptuously barge his way through journalists, watching David Seymour back peddle his desire to burn 15 000 state jobs before Christmas and watching Chris Luxon struggle like a possum in the headlights all add to anxiety that while we’ve all voted, we still don’t have any idea what the fuck kind of Government we are actually getting here.

I don’t want to shit on the mainstream media, I think within the coverage that they did this Election almost everyone stepped up to the challenge and brought a decent attempt to getting answers, but where I feel we’ve been let down is in the whole NZF/ACT/National debate.

We allowed Seymour, Luxon and Winston off the hook by not demanding to know what the bloody hell they would and wouldn’t do, this amounts to a blank cheque by the electorate that the Right will abuse.

Was all the race baiting just shits and giggles to get votes that will immediately be dumped once they form a Government?

Was the beneficiary bashings just for the votes too?

Will Nicola Willis really resign if Winston refuses to lift the Foreign Buyers Ban and stop the tax cuts?

Really?

We will have no idea what the merger of these 3 agendas will generate, and we should know!

That everyone is in the dark as Winston arrives is a failure of our Fourth Estate imagination to foresee this exact moment and demand answers for it!

Look.

I’m not pissed that the Right won, that’s democracy, I’m pissed they won with such vapid and venal policy!

Their knee jerk crap alongside counterproductive punitive measures alongside Real Estate Lobbyist wet dreams combine to vandalize the Egalitarian State!

Taking from the poor to give to the rich ain’t my bag baby and we are a collectively worse nation for this outcome !

The only thing that warms the cynical black splinter of what is left of my heart is the thought of Winston, Seymour and Luxon all having to work together.

If that’s ‘winning’, losing don’t feel so bad

If you thought Labour were awful, after 3 years of this National/ACT/NZ First nightmare, you will be screaming for Covid to make a come back!

  1. Until the final figures are in it is pointless expecting what will come from.rhe results.
The outdated voting system we have needs to be overhauled to speed up the results using modern technology.

    • ” The outdated voting system we have needs to be overhauled to speed up the results using modern technology ”

      What do you suggest ?

  2. What does this say about our media, they would rather chase Labour members when they go to the tiolet shows they are literally crap. And we have motor mouth Hosking’s trying to do a gotcha moment with new Greens elected Tabitha Paul, yet they left Wayne Auckland mayor off lightly when not fronting and he was allowed to bag the media.

  3. They’ve said what they’ve said, we’ve believed what we’ve chosen to, and the results aren’t even final yet.

I don’t know if I think it’s reasonable for parties to announce what concessions they might make in advance of results let alone negotiations, but I do think it’s unreasonable to expect the media to tell us the future.

Heck, I’d be over the moon if we could get the media to accurately tell us the present.

  4. The fact that “vapid and venal policy” was enough to defeat Labour (only Labour, not the Left, because both Left parties increased their presence in the House) is a testament to how fuckin poor Labour have been since the 2020 election.
They had 2 votes from me in 2020 but TPM got my vote this year.
Asking the 3 leaders what their coalition strategy is prior, even to the final outcome of the election, is just performative art by the television media especially. Their editors want video of reporters chasing politicians. They can turn that into minutes of talking head speculation.

  5. It show you how much Labour stuffed up their six years in government. The majority of the voting public are prepared to put up with what you think this coalition will bring. It was TIME FOR A CHANGE.

  6. ” The majority of the voting public are prepared to put up with what you think this coalition will bring ”

That’s being a bit presumptuous considering the government has not been formed yet.

One thing is for certain it will be what Winston wants as a legacy and will be prepared to turn a blind eye as Willis and Seymour with their hunting knives come for us …..and by that I mean the class that no one represents anymore and that’s the slaves who keep the wheels turning for the entitled classes and top wealthy elite.

LINO still doesn’t get it and probably never will ensuring a long dark night for so many of our exploited communities.

  7. ” I don’t want to shit on the mainstream media ”

Its all good Bomber they wouldn’t notice as they are representative’s of the faecal class that has just been elected.
