Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist language, homophobic language, racist language, anti-muslim hate, transphobic language, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. Newspapers lack community generosity? They refuse an on-line look at death notices without removing ad blocker. I thought that such notices were paid for originally, not like items compiled by journalists – The Press, NZ Herald etc.

  2. Authorities enabling house building in flood areas.
Large scale disaster in Queensland Australia – I think in Brisbane.
Brisbane (Meanjin) is the only capital city in Australia built on a floodplain, and the only large metropolitan area to experience major flooding. Its subtropical climate is characterized by summer rain and comparatively dry winters.

And here is a local case. The various pressures to open up and for builders profit or to provide needed public housing results in technical advice being ignored and supposedly trustworthy watchdogs in Councils usually, doing what? Sighing, looking the other way, losing reports down the back of drawers, in the clouds, heads in the clouds!

…”Where we are living, [David Playle] apparently it was an awa, it was a river. It used to go from Coxs Bay all the way to Crummer Road. So every time there’s rain, I’m out here checking these drains, making sure they’re not blocked.”
Playle lifted up a trapdoor built into the deck, exposing a large stormwater drain running through the property.
Council inspectors came over to check on the drain on Friday before the flooding hit, but once the rain started pouring, the drain began overflowing…
Within three minutes the water was up to our knees in the house. We were trying to retrieve as much as we could, the fridges and the bench started floating, the water got up to my chest.”
Playle said it was lucky the flooding did not happen in the middle of the night, as the water got all the way within half a metre from the ceiling…

The community response has had a huge impact on Playle, who said he had felt something coming before the flood, even sharing a message about his premonition on his neighbour’s fence.
“It’s been amazing. It’s like the old Aotearoa that I remember in the 80s. Everyone in the community was just absolutely outstanding.”
Playle and his five flatmates were looking for a new whare to live in, and had a give-a-little fundraising page titled “hakanoa underwater” set up to help the tenants get back on their feet. None of them were insured.

Perhaps we can tap into that old Aotearoa feeling and the underlying feeling of compatriots in our country and get people coming together and finding better ways of working together as a nation,. That may involve leaving behind or moving around the pollies who are treasonable at worst, suffering from capitalistic-ignorance, and shell shocked into the condition of ‘frozen function’ where all they can move is their mouths with an odd smile – the smile of the tiger!

  3. When you get some money you expect good services, you don’t expect to have to do anything yourself – become lords and ladies of the middle class? Or perhaps the bourgeoisie?

    How would Marx view this:
What are the main social classes according to Marx?
In relation to property there are three great classes of society: the bourgeoisie (who own the means of production such as machinery and factory buildings, and whose source of income is profit), landowners (whose income is rent), and the proletariat (who own their labor and sell it for a wage).

“This drain on the street had a leaf trap underneath it with 5mm mesh and it just blocked up and flooded down our driveway.
“The issue is with all the leaves from the trees – it beautifies the neighbourhood – but nobody cleans it.

I must be lower class, in heavy rain I will go out and check the storm drains, and even lift up some detritus with my hands – manual labour!
