Labour aren’t losing support – the Left is! A lot of ‘Morganing up’ this election year

The danger of identity politics is that a tribal affiliation to your skin colour, genitalia and orientation over all else means pure temple politics over Broadchurch and makes it almost impossible to win a 51% majority.

NZ Twitter ready to cast the first stone

‘Morganing Up’: Where a previous social media activist goes from woke drama queen to respectable UK liberal newspaper columnist in an attempt to look more mainstream and less alienating.

The best thing about this election will be watching the moment when the middle class woke identity politics clique realise how much the electorate hate them as they attempt to woo voters in election year.

I love observing their attempt at political persuasion.

It’s like watching vegans eating steak.

In an election of tribal polarisation and a social media environment of call outs and cancellations, pure temple politics erodes the common ground between voters to build Broadchurch mandates and a political majority.

The level of alienation that woke cancel culture has generated on the political spectrum is starting to dawn on the Wellington Twitteratti and you see a lot more of this stuff now…

…good luck with that.

By banning free speech and demanding trigger free safe spaces, the Left have lost the skill of arguing our side and winning.

By focusing on virtue signals for middle class social justice, we have forgotten about economic justice for beneficiaries, the working classes and renters.

That’s why we on the Left aren’t attracting voters.

Labour isn’t losing support, the Left is!

The woke didn’t care about the cost of living crisis and the economic hegemonic structures because many of the middle class woke are benefitting from property speculation and were insulated from the cost of living crisis. Their focus is on representation and cancelling people for crimes against woke dogma, unfortunately for us on the left, poor people aren’t sitting around the kitchen table cancelling people for misusing pronouns or not using enough Te Reo in their day to day life or not vegan cycling enough – they are sitting around the kitchen table trying to work out how the fuck they are trying to pay the bills this week.

The Left are fighting for land rights for gay whales, sadly that doesn’t win elections.

The true horror is that an ACT/National Government will be truly damaging to this country.

Remember in 2018 when ACT was on .7 and the middle class woke started their war on free speech?

Remember how I argued the woke shouldn’t start a war on free speech because it would trigger a dormant political fault line?

Remember how the woke ignored me and tried to ban gender critical feminists from universities, Don Brash from speaking and Southern and Molyneux?

Remember how this did trigger a dormant political fault line and ACT are now polling 12%?

From .7% to 12% in 4 years represents a far right radicalisation of NZ politics that has never been seen before.

Maybe, just maybe, the 4th wave feminists, the non binary activists and nationalist Māori are alienating voters from the Left and helping the right win.

You can’t govern the people if you don’t love the people and the woke fucking hate the people.

The danger of identity politics is that a tribal affiliation to your skin colour, genitalia and orientation over all else means pure temple politics over Broadchurch and makes it almost impossible to win a 51% majority.

The Left must spend this year getting back to the universals of politics rather than esoteric virtue signals.

    • Exactly.
The problem is Labour don’t care about economic and power injustice, not that they care more about other issues. In fact they don’t really care about people at all.

  1. Trouble is Martyn the ‘woke’ you speak of are so imbedded into their particular cause they can’t back down as that would seem like defeat.

Soooo they HAVE to carry on, they are *pot commited with a ‘dirty diaper’ hand and know it’s no good but hubris/ego cannot make them fold.(*Texas hold ’em poker reference, a dirty diaper is a 2 and 3 off suit)

  2. The liberal-particularists of the Identity movement were never on the ‘Left’, but quite the opposite.

Both the Frankfurt School and the Poststructuralists would, after receiving early state funding, eventually be funded directly by Wall Street and E.E.C. capital, and used to infiltrate the old Second International parties.

The hyper-sectarian, anti-scientific demagogy of the Poststructualists would become the basis of ‘culture war politics’. Any attempt to unite working people, in defence of their living standards, could now be defeated via division: discussion of the class system was banned, replaced by chauvinism, the ‘battle of the sexes’, religious sectarianism, and even outright racialism.

The actual policies of the main political parties were now nearly indistinguishable.

These liberals, wrapping themselves in the phraseology of the Left (and even Marx!), were suddenly promoting hysterical Anti-Communism and Russophobia, F.B.I. censorship of the press and electronic bulletins, complete support for U.S. imperialism — and would repeat whatever absurd, pro-war lies the C.I.A. was spouting at any one time.

  3. Great article.

I abandoned the left many years ago. I don’t consider myself right, either, rather guided by a value system based on individual freedom, anti-authoritarianism and anti-elites.

Anyways, the left/right labels are redundant these days. The dominant axis is authoritarian/liberty. Can the old school left now disentangle themselves from the nihilism of the woke authoritarians?

    I doubt it.

  4. Denny Paoa Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokai whenuakitanatahu(Tane/Male/Man, not Female/Woman)

Where do they go when they dont get what they want? You know, when they’re having a tantrum? To the nearest motorway or Art Gallery to glue themselves to stuff? Or back onto the internet to bubble-up their next big idea they’ve borrowed from history? Or do they go to a utopia, ‘Europe’ to join the “Europeans of Wokery?”

With a bit of luck they’ll all fuckoff soon.

  5. In his recent post, MICKYSAVAGE, over at The Standard, has done a good job highlighting how out of touch he and Labour are. He thinks NZ is in a pretty good state.

This is despite the fact the Reserve Bank is deliberately engineering a recession. And the Finance Minister is doing little to help avert that.

Micky also thinks Labour didn’t do too bad a job handling Covid. However, they divided the country creating two classes of citizens, spurring massive outrage and protest. With the poorly directed financial stimulus resulting in inflation.

Micky then goes on to downplay the inflation by pointing at other nations with higher inflation. With Australia being one, yet many here are leaving for Australia, in general, due to their far higher incomes that help many over there better deal with the cost of living.

As for our generally low wages, Micky downplays that by highlighting wage increases have been higher under this Government than they have been under a National Government. As if that is some high bar we should all be proud of. Too little too late.

Interestingly, he then conflates the disappointment and complaints about the speed that this Government is acting to the slow speed of hate speech laws, which, most weren’t in support of anyway.

The slow pace of Kiwibuild was also downplayed. Once again, by comparing them (Labour) to National.

As for poverty, Micky, acknowledges greater speed is vital, yet can only point to the general direction of change and not when the vital rate of speed will increase. Which, of course, is not good enough to quell voter disappointment or help the growing number financially suffering.

    • Keep Covid out of it. We didn’t have a choice, given the millions of deaths around the world.
But we do have a choice about keeping out people from high risk countries with no honest/verifiable vaccination records.

      • Keeping Covid out of it would be denying the damage done, which isn’t the way to repair it.

Nor is continuing to support the separation via requiring vaccination for travel.

    • Actually everything MickeySavage says sounds about right. Rabid right wing opponents like the chairman become embarrassing when they compare the promotion of a low wage economy under National and progressive wage increases under Labour as ( too little too late).

      • Actually, it was Micky that initially raised the comparison, thus setting the low bar. Embarrassing himself and the Party by doing so.

And you are making an embarrassment of yourself by publicly supporting Micky’s comments/position.

Labour’s wage increases have failed to even match up to the living wage. Thus, too little too late indeed.

  6. When you believe your own waste wind is superior to everyone else’s you are in a denial void. Labour is there. The only way Labour can be saved is if Luxon decides to pull a pony tail or if Willis or Stanford have a mental breakdown. All of the above is possible but unlikely. Whatever changes, backtracking or re focusing will be seen for what it is. Survival politics. Don’t get me wrong here, I am right wing but viewed Jacindas promises as someone seriously pushing for social reform. It was almost believable until she went belly up over CGT. I had already paid death duty tax and was prepared to pay again as it’s obvious it sends a signal. Jacinda didn’t show backbone and any chance of my support was gone. I feel sorry for all of us. I believe Nat/ Act won’t be radical. Was Labour/green. It’s all pink puff.

  7. This year when interest rates rise another percent and mortgage payments have increased by 40% in 12 months the middle class woke will be… “sitting around the kitchen table trying to work out how the fuck… to pay the bills this week.”
