Auckland Mayoralty Race: I don’t think Wayne Brown has any clue how to fight Leo Molloy

Ummmm, woke outrage ain’t going to work against Leo Molloy…

Rival Wayne Brown calls on Leo Molloy to stand aside from Auckland mayoral race over TV appearance

Auckland mayoral candidate Wayne Brown says rival Leo Molloy’s “bizarre antics, short-temper and foul-mouthed rants” during an appearance on a satirical television programme mean he must withdraw from the race.

Molloy hit out at people he deemed “woke” and claimed Auckland had been hampered by a succession of “soft-****” mayors during his interview on TV3’s New Zealand Today, a comedy current affairs show hosted by Guy Williams.

Brown today claimed Molloy’s antics had “eliminated any thought he was capable of being mayor”.

Molloy laughed off Brown’s call, describing his rival as “a dead man walking” and said it was Brown who should hold up a “white flag” and surrender from the race.

…the interview with Leo is hilarious and should in of itself rule him out as Mayor, but that is the super power of Molloy and his support, any other candidate it would have been a train wreck career ending interview, but for Leo it only empowers him.

Pearl clutching shock and demanding Leo resigns just looks like Wayne has no sense of humour.

There is a reactionary resentment vote in Auckland who view the ‘progress’ as gridlock and the Left’s inability to present a vision to counter that has allowed a huge populist reactionary momentum that isn’t Left or Right to build.

It’s like Wayne has hired a bunch of second rate podcasters from The Spinoff and is surprised it isn’t working. Wayne’s vote in the most recent poll has collapsed and despite all his money he has lost any momentum, complaining about Leo beating Guy Williams up and demanding he quit the race is as weak as it gets.

The last thing we need is to turn this Mayoralty Race into a culture war because the Auckland Left won’t win that fight.

Labour and National should be very worried, if they both lose Auckland to a reactionary populist, it asks hard questions of the election in 2023.

All Wayne has done is ensure people watch the interview.

  1. Leo will WIN the mayoralty. After serving one term as Mayor, he’ll stand for parliament and become Prime Minister around 2029.

  2. Perhaps Leo Molloy is the antidote to Auckland’s woke woes? Anyway, that interview really made me laugh, and I needed a laugh.

  3. It’s funny! Guy is meant to be a comedian right!?

All they should have done is issue a ‘trigger’ warning with it when they released it.

Or given it a ‘W’ rating. Or ‘WS’ rating. Woke-Snowflake rating!

  4. Tbf I think Auckland needs a reactionary populist to shake the shit out of the bureaucracy and those little empire builders inhabiting the likes of Auckland Transport.
Dont really like him but starting to think I’ll vote for him just to watch the show.

  5. Molloy is a big breath of fresh air! Instead of all those boring as fuck cookie cut bureaucrat Labour or National career administrators who spout the same party line crap day in and day out, here’s a guy who knows how to use words like a normal human. He will romp home. People will be shitscared that Collins will be just another iteration of the Labour govt….and they would he dead right!

  6. Wayne Brown is as simulating and as enticing as a beer crate, without the beer. Dour is an excellent word to describe the man.

Give up Wayne! Please! You are wasted vote material!

  7. where’s the C&R ticket – they should be using Leo as their Trump and draining the swamp – lol – he’ll probably just get embroiled in personality squabbles after saying the wrong things and brow beaten by the establishment until he walks away in disgust. Should be fun to watch.

  8. He says he has three main policies – the clip only mentions two…

    1. Free Buses for the poor, the green and the left.
    2. A Fancy New Stadium for ruggerheads right next to his bar.
    3. ….

Will his third policy be to rein in the thousands of bureaucrats paying themselves $2000 a week and the hundreds of bureaucrats paying themselves $4000 a week? Or will he House The Homeless Streeties?

Apparently, he is going to scrap the Dog Rego tax. That’s a plan 1 in 5 households can support.

He’s a publican, jocky, vet, and promoter, with a catholic social conscience, a west coast sense of humour and now seems like a pretty astute politician.

He would be great for a laugh for three years. The Spinoff and co will go full Trump in their reporting.

    • Only disappointment is the congestion tax. We really don’t need another expense nor another reason this avoid the CBD, assuming he’s not gunning for taxes Auckland wide.

  9. For the first time ever I agree with Wayne Brown.
Molloy is a puffed up piece of dog shit that has no filter and zero talent . Hes a hybrid of the worst elements of Bozo Boris’s foppish idiocy and Trump’s ego driven insanity.
If Guy Williams is a “soft cock” Leo Molloy is a viagra fueled Dickhead. Plain and simple.
Give this moron the keys to the city and hell burn it to the ground.

    • “Give this moron the keys to the city and hell burn it to the ground.”

This is probably the only way out for Auckland. Collect the insurance money to clear the $10.8b of debt!

      Like Rome….burn baby burn!

  10. Don’t fight it Wayne, he’s bigger than both of us!

Guy Williams is funny, but he sometimes takes the piss out of small town people, so it this case the tables were turned.
Leo made Trump look like a softly spoken moderate. Never quite seen anything like it! I reckon he will win. People are sick of politicians spouting BS and actually he has a great idea about how to reduce congestion in Auckland.

I get the feeling that underneath the outrageous anti PC speak, Leo is a good guy. Still very interested as to why Matt McCarten is his campaign manager. If Matt had any responsibility for the interview with Guy W then he’s a f….genius.

  11. and I have just read that Leo Molloy is supporting a 501 guy and says he has put his gang associations behind him. I like him

    • Me too Ted I’m done with the self appointed who in fact are silly.
They talk and turn in riddles and believe they are our moral arbiters.

  12. Lol! Funny as fk interview! Good stuff Leo Malloy! Proud to be a kiwi when blokes like Leo stand up and straight talk the shit out of wokedom! Haha!
