A salute to Dr Ashley Bloomfield from a bitter and ungrateful nation of moaners & feral lunatics

Few public servants have become household names like Bloomfield.

His calm performances, his stable grip of communication and immediate recall of vast tracks of real time information marks him as one of the greatest public servants ever and his results speak for themselves

Covid deaths:
Sweden: 18,365
Australia: 6,425
Denmark: 5,777
Aotearoa: 443

Ashley was part of a public health response that history will hold up as exemplary.

Sure there were mistakes.

Sure there was a challenge to the State where Health trumped all else and many other departments were rubbed up the wring way.

Yes the DHBs were useless in their community outreach and one wonders how a Māori Health Authority could have performed differently, but overall, he did a remarkable job.

The most extraordinary part of his performance was the jaw dropping bile and toxic hate rage that was vomited up upon him every day.

I’m not talking valid criticism or clever social media burns, I’m talking insane asylum sewer level radioactive invective that once read can’t ever be cleaned away.

The vile shit thrown at him for saving our collective lives is bordering on outright lunacy.

He represented our best, the toxic outrage represents our worst.

Thank you for your service Dr Ashley. There will always be parts of rational NZ who will welcome you and who are genuinely grateful for your leadership at a time of huge crisis.

Kia kaha.

  1. Alllrighty then? Total waste of 1 minute of my life. Not a very informative minute. Martyn has a big crush on gloomers.. Didnt need to know about that

Did see gloomy walking up Molesworth without a mask recently. Maybe he was trying to tell people something

  2. He is awesome. He must be worn out arguing with Labour. Still think that Dickhead Clark should be fired for throwing him under the bus…what prize arsehole. Have fun Ashleigh.

    • Hollow words Kraut. He’s done his bit and the feral anti everything brigade ie the right, just get under his skin. A good man lost to idiots like you, hope your satisfied. Who’s next? The PM no doubt. Fuckwits, the lot of you.

      • Sour Kraut aka Richard Sivell, so no surprise there. Joins Seymour for his pathetic comment and thus under Martyns umbrella of moaners and feral lunatics.

        • Bert. Seymour’s ‘pathetic’ comments are worthy of adjectives that the human race hasn’t yet discovered. Consider Seymour’s achievements (sic)compared to those of Dr Bloomfield.

      • Hahahaha priceless rant. Still laughing.
Ashley is the consumate professional who knows his stuff. Why wasn’t he minister of health? He’d have been better than the other clowns.

        • Don’t be such a silly cabbage. The man’s a health professional, too highly trained and time invested to be a dime a dozen politician. Now I’m not a Jacinda fan, but if Dr Bloomfield had been paired with that glib Key shyster or hapless wee Bill English, the outcome for Kiwis would almost certainly been much worse, when the right’s sole interest has been keeping the dosh coming in for them and their mates in exactly the same sort of way that they dismiss overwhelming evidence that the plant’s burning while they charter shiny black limos to travel 50 metres up the road and Chris Bishop’s old dad searches petrol stations for a hot pie. You gotta laugh.

            • So what did he do wrong, Cabbage ? I don’t watch television, but everyone I know who does, holds this chap in high esteem. Seems to me that we did very well compared to other countries, so quit this petty moaning, buy Lotto and and other wishful things, upskill, get a hobby, grow your own vegetables, learn to read books, and always say “No “ to drugs.

(I do hope that you’re not jealous of his classy head of hair. )

          • Yes I am these days left wondering what has happened to the pragmatic, pro-active, sensible and appreciative Kiwis we were. Where has this pure nastiness come from. I totally
appreciate the huge effort and calm that Dr Bloomfield gave us over these last two years.

      • I do not see any leaders of these protest groups that would be National voters not so familiar with Act .Some many come from the Christian right but most strike me as so called Greens certainly Noone I would want to mix with.

    • I hope you understood what you wrote, because it just looks like drivel to me… Pointless and self absorbed drivel.. The same idiocy that leads to the rank childish stupidity in Wellington recently… If this is the level of Dialogue we can expect in NZ now that passes for mature, informed debate, then we should just vote tory, and then get on with becoming an American satellite, while we wait for the the end… Fucking lemmings, you gotta hate them!!

  3. Top bloke, was the right man at the right time. I reckon your next job could command a whopping responsibility/ salary what ever you do. You would have a pretty good CV.

  4. All those people who were not “allowed” to be with their loved ones during their loved ones last dying breaths will probably always remember Ashley and the faux empathy queens stand up routines.

    • It was a mild plague ex kiwi. Get a grip you great softie – the nation could not handle people just ignoring the risks because it was about all the country’s ability to cope as well as the poor people suffering and their relatives.
You actually refer to the heart of the problem and then blame the medical service because they weren’t able to help everybody. Which was why they made the restrictions in the first place. Goodbye ex kiwi we have enough dimwits here now – so good if you stay out of nz which sounds like the case.

    • Your right Bert seemores comments are typical coming from a little divisive grub like him. But the ungratefulness coming from other NZers disappoints me. We only need to look at what is happening across the ditch in NSW they are having major issues with Omicron and look at Shanghai. But now we have this nasty underbelly in this country and its not just disenfranchised peoples some of those complaining the loudest as usual are the well healed. And why is that? is it because they care only about themselves and not the majority of us. Despite us having low Covid death rates there are people still wanting business as usual. And if warmonger arse-kissing National and Act were in power thousands of Maori, PI and our elderly people would have died not hundred, thousands.

    • And all those that were saved by Ashley and the PM ( your complete lack of respect is noted ex Kiwi) will thank them for the best health response in the world. Australia deserves you but no doubt you’ll be back as a 501.

  5. ” The most extraordinary part of his performance was the jaw dropping bile and toxic hate rage that was vomited up upon him every day ”

Yeah he actually worked for the 575,000 he earns every year plus bonuses’ and at least he earns so much money that he can decide now he is stepping down when he will sign his next generous contract…in other words I get paid so generously that I can take time out to plot my next move.

I give thanks to Mr Ashley for doing his well remunerated job at 1575 a day gross. He has earned every cent as has Jacinda and all the other workers last business first LINO MPs

I look forward to his book how we beat Covid in Aotearoa ..a detailed analysis.

    No toxic hate rage intended.

He is well paid and did his job.

    • Correct Mosa: He was paid well to do his job and he did it pretty well overall. Thanks Ashley!
All nations were caught napping when this thing hit and had to make it up as they went along, each with their own unique circumstances. Mostly, we were just plain lucky:

      > Lucky to be protected by 2,000 miles of ocean

      >Lucky we were in the southern hemisphere so our Chinese students were on the way home for the long Christmas break when the virus escaped

      >Lucky to have a low population density with relatively few living in apartments

      > Lucky we didn’t have a ‘Ruby Princess’ arrive in Auckland at an inopportune time

      • So Mosa and Andrew, using your criteria ” he was just doing what he was paid to do” can we expect a knighthood? Absolutely!

      • Plenty of sad right wing anti labour and hate jacinda grumpy old men negativity against Ash. Tory talk ZB and Tory Times Granny Herald and the MSM are envious that Ash has expertly advised Jacinda with the correct scientific advice. They have made the right decisions since the beginning of the pandemic and saved my life and at least 15,000 other Aotearoan citizenz. The Right wingers have made outlandish claims and yes NZ is lucky those greedy NATZACT weren’t leading the covid response. Seymore is of no consequence and therefore can say what he wants.
If John Key can give himself a knighthood after the corrupt dirty politics events and supporting the property speculators, then Ash should also get the VC.

      • Andrew are you still waiting for the NATZACT tory dirty politics team to give you instructions on their next anti labour hate jacinda project. Can you let us know what the take is?

    • Yes he is well paid and so are many other NZers who have been given knighthoods we are now more like little England.

  6. If National had abused kiwi’s rights like a Labour and Bloomfield had, you would rightly been apoplectic with rage.
Instead you are showing your true tribal sycophantic nature.
The correct response is to be apoplectic with rage at Labour, Bloomfield and all the rest of the wankers in parliament for supporting this evil.

  7. Meh. The rats are jumping the sinking ship. We still don’t have morbidity data (all causes) for 2020 and 2021.

So it’s not just Bloomfield – they’re all getting the fuck out. I think there is some sort of covid disclosure coming out soon and they’re getting out in front of it. I don’t believe in these sort of coincidences. We’ll see.

    • The jumping off the ship as you say may be down to their fear of Nact government and rightly so. Look at the carnage that was left behind by Nact at their last turn in office, underfuning in the workforce, infrastructure, wages and future investment.
National MPs complaining now that we should get rid of Labour day as a consequence of the new Matariki public holiday. Yet the evidence is clear that the money spent on public holidays in the retail sector outstrips money lost in production. Add in the mental health wellbeing of staff and in fact staff are more likely to be productive.
It is typical though that the likes of ACT and National measure everything by the dollar yet can’t see the cost benefits of retail sales. Oddly bizzare.

  8. Some of those self-entitled to trouble-freedom consideration for our fellow citizens might not salute you Dr Bloomfield, but most of us do whole-heartedly. The fickle finger of fate will see us and our little individual concerns pass on as inconsequential in New Zealand’s and the world’s history of happenings, but you will be remembered as having set the standard and encouraged the whole medical response that has been so good for us in NZ.

other nations have noted and helped us also to be part of a mutually supportive worldwide interaction. And much of the successful effort at rising above the Covid19 disease problem has resulted from the work of yourself and similar colleagues around the planet. With hope that this approach in personal medicine can be as well applied to other troubling matters in future difficult times.

  9. He may get a ‘call-back’ to join the new Health Authority come July 1st!

Say Bye, Bye to 20 DHBs and the duplication of jobs!

That’s why the scumbag PSA wants a 7-month holiday insurance scam asap!

  10. Thank you for your service Dr Bloomfield.
To me you seemed a hard working and sincere public servant and should hold your head high for a job well done on your part.
I’ve not seen the bile and venom said to be directed at you, but it may be that some people reacted negatively at the wrong target, to the endless politicization of public health by government, and deification of public figures by media. Not your fault.

I hope you get the time to relax that you have earned.
