  1. Deforestation in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest has hit its highest level in over 15 years, official data shows.
A report by Brazil’s space research agency (Inpe) found that deforestation increased by 22% in a year.

Killing the planet continues, while on junkets like COP26 – (more pledges in the nether nether, 26 COP years later, international junkets and things seem to be getting worse with climate change, biodiversity loss and carbon emissions!

  2. Toxic waters devastated Pacific Coast fisheries. But who’s to blame?
Union leaders say fossil fuel companies must pay for rising ocean temperatures. Not all boat captains are persuaded

Other countries investing in research for solar powered fishing boats, NZ nowhere to be seen.

The owners said the NOK350 million (US$39.4 million) newbuild is the world’s first LNG-battery hybrid fishing vessel, its particular propulsion configuration having been specifically selected to fulfill the requirement for a vessel that is capable of sustainable fishing operations.

NZ seems to have managed to miss any sustainable opportunity to pivot to new technology so far, no doubt will be on the wrong side of history, after all, why bother to plan for the future, when you just lobby the government to pay for your industry to change, and actually not change at all?

      • What happened to 100% pure NZ, Green NZ, and our nuclear free moment? Sad that NZ have become more marketing and spin (easily looking stupid and polluting in world statistics now) than real integrity in the environmental space.

        • It was always a myth.
But we told each other that because that was what we wanted to believe.
We looked at the pictures of poisoned rivers and smog-laden cities from other lands and it reinforced our own smug beliefs of our environmental superiority.
And now when anyone speaks the truth (like Greta Thunburg) they are accused of being upstarts and those people most horrible of all – Greenies.

  3. “Live: Hundreds of Groundswell farmer protesters gridlock Auckland’s Queen St”
So that’s what is meant by the term “Queen Street Farmers”.
An appropriate place to protest because that is where the overseas interests that have done so much to plunder the NZ economy have many of their head offices.
But I don’t suppose they are actually aware of that.

Lifesavers expected to wear masks during rescues!!

That could lead to the public expectations of government dealing with both the public’s urgent needs while dishing up platitudes and systems for making Covid go away. We can’t be doing everything can we Labour, you show us that. Chewing gum while walking – who can do that these days. Government says, ‘We employ robot bureaucrats or contractors to do any active work.
