Warren supporters won’t back Bernie – Identity Politics and modern political culture doesn’t work like that

Some talk that Warren’s departure from the US Presidential race will help Sanders because both represented the liberal progressive arm of Democratic political culture.

I don’t think it will.

Identity Politics doesn’t work like that and modern political culture almost makes it impossible.

Many followers of Warren supported her BECAUSE she was a woman, not because she had liberal progressive policy. The latter matters, but not nearly as much as the former.

Loyalty under Identity Politics is to the lived experience of identity, not a class solidarity of agreed universal values.

White middle class suburban ‘Ok Karen‘ Warren supporters will all Yoga stretch their way over to Biden’s non threatening economic platform rather than sign up to a revolution.

Compounding this lack of Broadchurch class solidarity in favour of pure temple identity is the current political culture. While the antagonism between Warren and Sanders personally isn’t anywhere on par with previous Primary fights, the unrelenting 24-7 social media fights between their supporters is as vicious as any schism.

Warren feminists and Sandernista Bernie Bros have beaten each other senseless online with the resulting victim olympics such fights generate.

People have been cancelling each other before they appear.

The internal culture dynamics of the counter productive social media landscape is a PHD in the making.

Our abuse towards each other has an incredible impact and makes common cause almost impossible because people are emotionally offended as opposed to philosophically or intellectually engaged and with the hurt feelings comes a rising tide of universal resentment towards your online opponents.

Sanders is digging in for a long march but the majority of Warren supporters will have already Ubered to Biden’s coronation before Bernie assails Washington.

Under Identity Politics, an ally is just someone who hasn’t oppressed or triggered you yet.

  1. Most of Warren’s policies are in line with Sander’s so it makes logical sense for her to grit her teeth and back him. Sander’s young supporters viciously attacked her and although Sanders has apologised and condemned the attackers, she/they won’t forgive him.

In the meantime the ‘likeable’ Biden is misleading his black supporters by lying about his civil rights record. They mistakenly associate him with Obama on civil rights. Now Obama is pushing the campaign drop-outs to support Biden, which matches his failure to condemn Trump. He is acting strangely.

  2. A small correction if I may:

“Compounding this lack of Broad church class solidarity in favour of pure temple identity is the current political culture [of the left].”

See what I’m getting at? The left is eating its own while the centre/right remains a broad church. This is the logical conclusion of intersectional theory.

  3. Bernie is not a member of the Democratic party. He’s an independent. Thats another reason why they hate him and, no member of the party is going to step out of line or else. Warrens a member!

  4. Both Wings belong to the same fat Neoliberalist Turkey. Warren is a Party Girl and quite happy to keep her salary while throwing Bernie under the Bus. Biden is Wall Street & Israel’s choice, same situation as Corbyn found himself in a couple months ago… Our way or the hiway, bye bye Bernie…
The FEMA camps are open for business in case of an insurrection…
