  1. Homeless moved from cars to motels: ‘It’s just shifted the problem’

“The government now spends more than $3 billion per year on housing assistance – with more and more of that money being spent on motels.

Emergency housing grants, which cover short term accommodation, were introduced in July 2016 as a stop gap measure but are increasingly being used for longer stays as the housing crisis bites.

There are 1899 households in private motels, with 381 of those in motels for more than three months at a cost of $1500 each a week.

Figures show it’s big business for some motels, with five providers alone receiving $20m in the last three years to provide shelter for the homeless.

The top earner is an Auckland motelier, Auckland Astro Residences – it’s been paid $6.1 million.”

  2. No idea why people can’t get tiny homes consented for a small fixed council fee (maybe 5 year rolling permits with no council liability on the actual structure itself for $1000 fixed fee from councils?) .. They are an obvious answer short term going forward.

Govt accused of hypocrisy after ordering its own batch of tiny home on wheels
    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/398583/govt-accused-of-hypocrisy-after-ordering-its-own-batch-of-tiny-home-on-wheels

So many construction firms going under is evidence that the building and resource consent and building industry itself is dysfunctional which both fails to do a good job as seen by so many construction errors going forward and is also very costly for very small consents… this encourages people to ‘big it up’ as it seems to be a similar price and process for a $100k home to a $2 million home… And a small commercial consent the same as a massive one that has major effects on community that nobody can challenge anymore because of how the RMA has been skewed to not take into consideration neighbours losses or environmental risks…

  3. A sign of the times… Good on this guy to call the hypocrisy .

“The antics of a New Zealand adman who hired a clown to be his support person while he was being fired have made worldwide headlines.

The Herald revealed yesterday how the agency rep – who has since identified himself as Josh Thompson – took a clown to a meeting with management of FCB.

It is understood the clown made balloon animals and mimed crying during the meeting as Thompson was given his marching orders.

Thompson had been working as a copywriter at FCB, after starting employment there in April.”

Ok lets work this out, he is hired in April and fired in September…. how they hell can people get ahead and buy or rent a house and put down roots if they only have jobs for a few months at a time these days?????

.. also sounds like he lost his job because firms like Vodafone are outsourcing so much work overseas now….

  4. In the mudrer of Grace Millane’s why does the murder accused still have name suppression????

What ‘special’ issues does this person have to justify not being named, which is pretty normal in a murder case to name the person charged with the crime.

It seems like the murder accused has more rights than the victim here.

Something does not seem right here, how the murder accused has managed to keep his name suppressed for so long and now milking the international suppression orders as being the victim instead of full transparency of the law, which should be a person accused of a serious crime, is named as part of how a transparent justice system is supposed to work.

      • Forensic science has a wider data base of finger prints and DNA testing for proving murder charges and drilling down likely suspects. It’s more difficult proving sexual assaults with foresnsic science because the victim often identifies the accuse then it comes down to consent between adults and he said she said. Often when the victim has physical injuries, routine evidence collecting is enough to prove guilt, particularly sexual assault against kids. In those cases when the injuries are severe the police take a dim view. So this idea that the police can not be trusted in the prosecution of sexual assault isn’t true when the evidence is overwhelming.

      • People are accused all the time, but when it is a serious crime that they are going to be prosecuted for, they are named as part of transparency of the NZ justice system.

However it seems in NZ of late, if you have enough money or are a sports star or have a lawyer able to spin a good story, you get name suppression, which did not use to happen…

It also helps people to come forward if they have information, if the person is named.

  5. Once upon a time I believed everything I was taught,
Because there was no reason not to.

In 1962, the US. Joint chiefs of Staff wrote and presented to then President Kennedy a paper describing how they would deceive the American public into WAR with Cuba in a ‘homegrown’ terror campaign against their OWN citizens [FalseFlagAttack] using – among other deceptions; droned civilian aircraft – with passengers (not killed) – being shot down by Cuban MIG’s, as casus belli.
    [page 10.#8. https://www.thedossier.info/documents/operation-northwoods.pdf ]
This previously secret document was originally made public on 18 November 1997, by the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Review Board.

In 1991, Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti revealed the existence of the same ‘practical, home-land terror technologies’ being deployed by NATO operation GLADIO and the ‘strategy of tension’ in Italy.
    s=GLADIOttps://aangirfan.blogspot.com/2006/12/bologna-bomb-1980-gladio-terrorism-in.html
[“NATO’s Secret Armies: Operation Gladio and Terrorism in Western Europe,” by Daniele Ganser]
Operation Gladio was organised by the Power elite and Military/security/intelligence services of the West, post WW2 [Now termed ‘DeepState’] Its Modus Operandi was and IS to tactically terrorise home populations with real and staged events (social engineering) in Europe and beyond into the wider world, as operation GLADIO b; exposed by the great 911-FBI Whistleblower Sibel Edmonds. https://www.newsbud.com/?s=GLADIO
GLADIO was forced into public consciousness by the ruthless Bologna Railway Station Bombing in 1980 killing 85 people and wounding over 200, which was immediately ‘found by Police’ to be a ‘Communist’ attack. Odd timing, given that the ‘Communists’ were likely to have been voted into power at the immediate next election. But then, thats how it works. Somewhat like the odd timing of the gas attacks loudly attributed to ASSAD right at the moment his forces were winning the field by ordinary military means and right when the UN Chemical Weapons Inspectorate landed in Damascus, crossing OBAMA’s ‘red-line.’
Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra stated, in sworn testimony:’You had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game. The reason was quite simple: to force … the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security.”

These are secrets not taught in school. And I bring them to the forum to help [me] over the hump of the silent 18th commemoration of nine eleven and the constant reiteration of terror attack in my home Garden City, where I once, in my youth ‘Walked the Beat’. And of which nothing I am being told makes any sense.
In the remote chance that conversation can dissemble these dark matters, and In the light of Gladio and Northwood; both need attention.
